Dog Stuck in Shelter for Over 785 Days Struggles to Find a Loving Home Due to Misunderstandings

Date:

Many dogs, especially Pit Bulls, often miss the chance for adoption simply due to their appearance. A poignant example is Yogi, a Pittie from a Florida rescue, who has spent over two years waiting for the right adopter. This tough-looking dog has been overlooked numerous times, despite his warm-hearted nature and longing for companionship.

Surrendered, Yet Full of Love

Yogi was surrendered to the Humane Society Naples when his owners had to relocate. Unable to care for him any longer, they made the difficult decision to give him up.

“Yogi came to us in 2022 after his previous owners moved; he has spent 785 days without experiencing a foster home or any break from the shelter,” the rescue shared on Facebook. Since his arrival, Yogi has shown nothing but sweetness, yet he remains largely unnoticed.

Yogi’s intimidating appearance and size are major reasons he gets overlooked. “Many people overlook Yogi due to his past and looks, but he deserves a second chance just like any other dog,” the rescue emphasized.

@hsnaples Meet Yogi 💔. Surrendered to us in 2022 because his previous owners were moving, Yogi has been with us for 785 days without ever experiencing a foster home or a break from the shelter. Many people overlook Yogi due to his rough past and intimidating appearance, but he deserves a second chance just as much as any other dog. Yogi has “stranger danger,” making him shy and reserved initially. This is why we require slow introductions, sometimes needing multiple visits, to ensure both Yogi and his potential adopters feel comfortable and safe. While he may require more patience than other dogs, this doesn’t mean he’s any less deserving of love and a loving home. Once Yogi gets to know you, he’s incredibly affectionate and loyal. He can be reserved at first and needs his boundaries respected, but once he trusts you, he trusts you completely. Yogi is a true gentleman, loving his busy boxes and treats, and he enjoys rolling around on the back seat floor. He does great on walks in the park. He loves playing with his dog friends too! Yogi is desperately looking for the right family who will show him the love, care, and patience he needs. Most of all, Yogi is loyal and forms intense connections with his people. Please give him a chance to be the loving companion he is meant to be. If you’re ready to meet Yogi and give him the home he deserves, please reach out to us or stop by our Main Shelter! Yogi is eagerly waiting 💗

Yogi spends his days watching people with other dogs go by, yearning for the same experience. So far, he has bid farewell to many shelter buddies, hoping to be adopted himself.

Still Waiting For The Right Person

Unbeknownst to many, Yogi is a loyal and devoted dog. His caregivers describe him as an excellent potential family member. “Yogi is desperately seeking the right family who will give him the love and patience he needs. Most importantly, he is loyal and forms deep bonds with his loved ones,” they added.

Though initially reserved, once he builds trust, Yogi reveals his affectionate nature. With time and patience, he can become the ideal canine companion everyone dreams of.

Yogi is also a fun-loving dog who enjoys adventures. As a fantastic walking companion, he enjoys the company of other dogs. “Yogi is a true gentleman who loves his busy boxes and treats; he enjoys rolling around in the back seat and has a great time on walks in the park. He also loves playing with his dog friends,” shared the rescue.

For now, Yogi waits in his kennel for the moment he can find a loving home. When that day comes, there’s no doubt he will bring immense joy to the right family!
