Dog Struggles to Survive on Pennsylvania Railroad Tracks, Dodging Trains Daily

Date:

It’s heartbreaking to learn about dogs who have suffered betrayal from humans. How can anyone inflict harm on such innocent beings?

Today’s story revolves around Lucky, a dog left on train tracks in Montgomery County, Philadelphia. Severely injured and unable to move his back legs, Lucky spent two perilous days dodging trains in sheer fear.

Thankfully, concerned individuals spotted him and called for help. Police officers and rescuers rushed to the scene. The moment they arrived and looked into Lucky’s sorrowful eyes, they were overwhelmed with heartbreak. The pup gazed at them pleadingly, as if begging to be rescued.

Rescuing Lucky

With tears in their eyes, the rescuers approached Lucky, lying helplessly on the tracks. They fed and comforted him, assuring he wouldn’t be left alone.

Lucky was quickly rushed to a clinic and placed in intensive care. With deep scrapes and broken teeth, he received prompt medical attention. Unfortunately, X-rays revealed a severe spinal cord injury, suggesting he may never walk again. It appeared Lucky had been struck by a train.

His dedicated rescuers remained by his side, showering him with love and support. Although the outlook was grim initially, when euthanasia was mentioned, Sidara Son, one of Lucky’s rescuers, adamantly opposed the idea. She was determined to save his life.

Against all odds, Lucky fought to survive and successfully underwent a six-hour spinal surgery. The resilient pup gradually began to improve.

Lucky started wearing a new harness, expressing gratitude towards his caregivers with countless kisses. Despite his traumatic experience, he remained the sweetest boy. After the rescue shared his story on social media, many individuals reached out to offer to foster or adopt Lucky.

Due to his extensive medical needs, the rescue was selective in finding an appropriate foster home for him.

Kimberly Price Astringer, the Director and Co-founder of Tiny Paws Rescue, became his medical foster and provided the care that Lucky desperately needed. Meanwhile, Son continued to support him by accompanying him to vet appointments.

Lucky’s amazing foster family played a crucial role in his recovery. He was eventually fitted with a wheeled cart, which allowed him to move around with ease. With a smile returning to his face, he began to play with his toys.

However, the traumatic experiences on the railroad tracks left their mark. Lucky struggled with anxiety and worked hard to overcome the fears that haunted him.

On January 26th, 2023, Philly Rescue Angels INC provided an update on Lucky, stating, “Lucky is showing great improvement! He is now able to stand & hold his hind legs up with minimal assistance and is showing some movement in his tail. He still has a long road ahead of him and will need continued physical therapy along with laser therapy.” This was shared in a Facebook post.

Despite his improvements, the rescue team was saddened that no one stepped forward to adopt Lucky after his recovery.
