Dogs that find themselves in shelters for extended periods often experience significant sadness. Yet, their reactions can vary greatly.

However, there are those who muster the last bits of their energy, sit front and center, and wag their tails in hopes of finally being seen.
A dog named Gumbo fits into this latter group. Despite being at the Palm Valley Animal Society for a full year, he has not given up on hope.
Patience Is Key
After such an extended stay, this charming Shepherd/Hound mix started to view the Texas shelter as his home.
Despite the cacophony of whimpers and cries from his fellow shelter mates, Gumbo maintained his cheerful demeanor, filled with optimism!
Whenever visitors arrive at the shelter, he eagerly races to his kennel door, sits down politely, and hopefully awaits someone to spot him.

Noticing his endearing habit, the shelter staff decided to utilize TikTok to showcase what a wonderful boy this canine really is.

The official Facebook page of the City of Edinburg, Texas, published a dedicated post highlighting this sweet boy to help raise awareness about his situation.
“Gumbo is a joy to be around once he gets comfortable; he enjoys socializing with people. With a moderate energy level, Gumbo is always ready for new adventures like exploring different places and going for runs,” the post stated here.
