Dog Sent to Texas Shelter for Barking at Another Canine Discovers New Hope with Loving Family

Date:

Moose exemplifies that shelter dogs are anything but bad! With a bullet in her lung and a challenging start to life, this adorable Pittie was determined to be everyone’s best friend. Tragically, no one gave her the chance to showcase her worth, and she was set to be euthanized just before Micky encountered her story. It was merely the availability of an extra kennel that extended her tragic fate and eventually saved her life!

Beating A False Stigma

Micky, Moose’s current owner, found this lovely dog just in time! Upon learning that the Pittie was to be euthanized, she took immediate action and applied to adopt her. Moose was put on a bus from Houston, Texas, and five days later, she met her savior in Virginia. The unfortunate reality was that Moose was labeled as “behavioral euthanasia” simply because she barked at another dog. Micky remarked, “It’s really sad because she was behavioral euthanasia and the only thing I saw in all of her staff notes was that she barked at another dog,” to GeoBeats Animals. Adding to the tragedy, Moose had been shot and had undergone an abortion in the past. As Micky shared on Instagram, “She had been shot (I only know this because we saw the bullet on her X-rays, it can’t be removed but multiple vets have said it does not affect her or put her in danger), had heartworms & was treated when I got her, and had an abortion.”

Unjustly stigmatized with a horrible first year of life, Micky felt compelled to help Moose create a new life.

“I’m shocked that this dog, considering how terrible her first year of life was, wants to be everyone’s best friend,” says Micky.

Moose – The Sweetest Lovebug Ever

Although Micky anticipated that Moose would require a lot of effort, this lovable girl turned out to be the opposite! Her in-house behavior suggested that she likely had an owner before since she was perfectly potty trained and familiar with all the do’s and don’ts. With a temperament that was a delightful surprise, Moose was far from the dog that “needed to be put down.”

Moose thrived in the presence of both humans and other dogs, quickly adapting and learning, which led Micky to the idea of training her as a therapy dog. Micky enthused, “Despite all of this, she has been the best girl ever and is learning more each day. She has come so far and was the best thing that could have happened to me.”

Multipurpose Service Pittie In Training

Micky needed a certified therapy dog due to her mobility issues, and Moose was the perfect fit! This sweet girl showcases remarkable intuition, prompting Micky to consider training her. As she explains, “Usually, she sleeps by my legs, but if I’m having a flare, and really, really don’t feel good, she’ll sleep up by my head.”

Currently, she is working on obtaining her OFA certificates, and I am absolutely confident that this exceptional shelter dog will become a remarkable therapy animal! Moose has been a part of Micky’s family for almost a year and a half, and their bond grows stronger each day. This fantastic duo enjoys beautiful adventures together!
