Dog Rescues Missing 85-Year-Old Woman from Deep Ravine, Crowned Hero of the Day

Date:

In challenging times, K9s come to the rescue!

While they may not always be in the limelight, their work is undeniably commendable!

These highly skilled, intelligent dogs consistently risk their own safety to save, find, detect, or protect, rendering a simple “Thank you” far too inadequate to convey our appreciation.

One remarkable story hails from Greenwood Village, Colorado.

Following a report about a senior woman missing for two hours, K-9 Mercury and his handler were dispatched to assist in the search. That was when Mercury showcased his extraordinary abilities.

Mercury Saves The Day

The tale from the City of Greenwood Village Government made waves on the internet when they released footage from Officer Speer’s body camera. In the video, this clever K9 can be seen navigating through bushes and conducting a search in an open field.

Ultimately, this three-year-old dog discovered the missing woman in a grassy ravine where she was struggling to hold onto a tree, unable to climb back up.

“K-9 Mercury, trained in locating and tracking missing persons, efficiently located the woman clinging to a tree at the bottom of a steep ravine, which was not visible from the road or canal,” stated CGVG in a Facebook update.

The officer assured the woman that Mercury was friendly and that he had assisted in finding her.

“That’s great!” she responded to the heroic duo.

The woman was safely reunited with her family, and the commendation for Mercury’s bravery was met with warm appreciation from the entire organization and beyond.

“The resident has been safely brought back to her family thanks to the diligent efforts of Officer Speer and Mercury, along with the assistance of Corporal Brandon Runyan and Officer Roberto Moya,” reported the City of Greenwood Village Government.

When this heartwarming story was shared on Facebook, the woman’s son, Pete Holman, took to the comments to express his profound gratitude for the wonderful duo.

“I searched for her for two hours, and Mercury and Officer Speer located her in just 10 minutes: UNBELIEVABLE! It felt like witnessing a Navy Seal extraction: I am incredibly thankful to call the City of Greenwood Village Government home!” Holman remarked in his comment.

What could have turned into a tragic situation resulted in a tale of compassion and courage, all thanks to Mercury!

Loved By Everyone

Mercury’s commendable service and the headlines he makes are just a part of his admirable persona!

In addition, this fantastic K9 makes sure to spread joy in his local community!

Along with his handler, Mercury visits elementary schools, sharing his time with the kids. While he doesn’t literally read, he enthusiastically engages with the children and poses for wonderful pictures as they pat him.

Mercury has a genuine fondness for children and thrives in the company of people!

Despite the serious nature of his duties, he remains the lovable pup who enchants everyone he encounters. There’s no doubt that Mercury has a tremendous affection for his community and will always strive to serve it!

We adore you, good boy!
