Monty and his brother, Phoenix, were surrendered to animal control at just four-and-a-half weeks old. They were taken in by the Kathleen C. Cailloux Humane Society of Kerrville (KCHS) in Texas, where the staff showered them with love, hoping to find them a permanent home. Despite their initial timidity, Monty and Phoenix soon adapted to shelter life, spending their days playing in the grass and dreaming of freedom and affection.
Monty Experiences A Heartbreak
Monty was the first to be adopted while Phoenix remained behind. Full of excitement, Monty embraced his new family life for four wonderful years. However, his happiness shattered when his family returned him to the shelter. No longer the playful puppy, Monty faced the harsh realities of shelter life anew.
Tragically, Monty did not reunite with Phoenix, who had already found his forever home. Staff members noticed Monty’s timid behavior but held onto hope that he would eventually find a loving family. Unfortunately, it’s been nearly seven years since he was returned, and he still waits for a second chance at love. Everyone who meets Monty falls in love with his gentle spirit, eagerly hoping he’ll find a permanent home.
Dreaming Of Finally Finding Forever Humans
Though Monty’s personality has remained consistent, his fur has visibly changed over the years; his once black coat is now grizzled with gray, a testament to his long wait for a home. Ever since returning to the shelter, he exhibits anxiety around other animals and struggles to make friends, yet he doesn’t allow this to overshadow his joy when with his favorite humans.
“Monty may be old [in] years, but he is still a puppy at heart. He loves being dressed up in sweaters and tutus, as well as his [pajamas],” shared Mackenzie, KCHC’s director, in an interview with The Dodo. Despite his difficulties with anxiety and his inability to get along with other animals or children, Monty’s shelter friends believe he could be the perfect companion for someone.
“Although he doesn’t get along with other animals or children, he is the sweetest soul you would ever meet. He loves going on his daily walks but spends much of his day hoping for love from anyone who looks in his direction,” Mackenzie added.
The sweet pup is eagerly awaiting a chance to find his perfect match, dreaming of the day he can finally receive the love he deserves.
