Animal shelters work diligently to offer love and comfort to their residents, but sometimes, the task is more challenging than anticipated.
Numerous animals struggle to flourish in a bustling environment because they need more dedicated attention and affection.
This is where foster homes play a vital role. They create a peaceful setting where dogs can interact, receive extra attention, and heal from any previous trauma.
Today’s tale illustrates this, featuring a charming little pup who rediscovered joy in life, all thanks to her compassionate fosters.
Introducing Holly

During a visit to the Dallas Animal Shelter, Janae encountered someone exceptionally special.
A lovable rescued stray named Holly was among the shelter’s inhabitants. Though she was severely malnourished and could only see out of one eye, this lovely pup captured Janae’s heart.
“She wasn’t running up to the window like many dogs do for attention. I asked the volunteer if we could take her out to the yard, just to let her out of the kennel for a while,” Janae shared with GeoBeats.
As the volunteer approached Holly to bring her outside, the sight of the leash made Holly extremely anxious.
To help her out, another volunteer had to scoop her up and carry her to the yard.

As soon as she caught a whiff of the fresh air, Holly couldn’t hide her excitement.
“Once we reached the yard, she started to run around joyfully. There was another dog nearby, and they could see each other through the gate. Holly began play bowing and wanted to join in the fun,” Janae said.
However, her newfound joy was short-lived.
Due to the shelter being full and Holly’s injuries, the Dallas shelter declared her unadoptable and set her for euthanasia.
“I called my husband and said, ‘She can’t go back in there; she can’t stay here. I’m so sorry, but we need to foster another dog,’” Janae expressed.
A Fresh Start

Upon leaving the shelter, Janae immediately took Holly to a groomer for a wash. Once she was all cleaned up, they headed straight to a pet store in Dallas for fun toys.
However, when Holly arrived at Janae’s home, she felt a bit anxious.
In her initial days at her new foster home, Holly would retreat to a corner, hiding from the world.
Fortunately, she soon began to come out of her shell.

Having previously adopted dogs, Janae and her husband were thrilled to provide Holly with the companionship of her furry siblings.
“They played a significant role in helping her realize that we were safe and that our home was filled with love,” she remarked.
Holly now delights in outdoor time with her doggo siblings, engaging in playful games of tag. She’s also a fan of being a couch potato, snuggling up with her humans on the couch whenever possible.
Forever Family

After a year of fostering Holly, Janae and her husband found themselves increasingly smitten with her.
They recognized that Holly, being such a sweetheart, deserved to be part of a wonderful family. And that’s exactly what unfolded.
“This adoption is 100% worth the wait for the perfect family. Her new parents discovered her on Facebook and live all the way in Washington state. They recently lost their beloved dog, sweet Georgia, who was a DPA Alumni,” shared Janae in an Instagram post.
Holly is finally where she always belonged – with a loving family that cherishes her deeply.
Way to go, Holly!
