For fourteen years, Gandalf faithfully loved his family, believing they would always stay by his side. Unfortunately, his reality shifted drastically when they decided to surrender him due to his severe dental issues and various cysts. Despite being a healthy dog otherwise, Gandalf found himself confused and heartbroken at Animal Haven in New York, wondering why his beloved owners had vanished from his life.
The Senior Dog Starts Looking For A Home

The staff at Animal Haven were heartbroken over Gandalf’s situation. Concerned he’d feel lonely in a kennel, they decided to keep him with their front desk team. Although their efforts were appreciated, Gandalf couldn’t shake off the sadness, pondering why his owners hadn’t come to take him home.
Determined to help Gandalf find a loving family, the staff shared his touching story on their TikTok account, explaining that the senior dog was in search of a new home. Gandalf’s shelter friends hoped to find someone who could provide him the love and security he desperately needed, especially after experiencing such a profound loss. The TikTok community was quick to rally around Gandalf, devastated by the sight of the sad dog who couldn’t comprehend why his beloved humans had left him.

In the post, the shelter highlighted how well Gandalf got along with “people, children, other dogs, and likely cats,” stating he would thrive in almost any type of home. The video quickly went viral, capturing the attention and hearts of many who wished to provide him with a loving home.
Gandalf’s Happy Ending

Just a couple of days later, the shelter shared an update, revealing that Gandalf had found his forever home. A loving family immediately fell for him upon seeing his story on TikTok and hurried to the shelter to adopt him.
“Gandalf’s new dad was literally waiting outside of Animal Haven before we opened the day after we posted his story,” the shelter recounted in the caption of the video.
Prior to embarking on this new chapter, the shelter ensured Gandalf’s dental issues were addressed and removed a cyst from his chest, which was fortunately just a lipoma. The joyous dog couldn’t contain his excitement when his new family arrived to pick him up, and now he happily thrives with his forever humans who have promised to spoil him.
