I’m fairly certain that each one of us has at least one particular word or phrase that makes us perk up the moment we hear it.
It might be a friend’s name, an iconic place, or something that sparks an inside joke among friends, or even the name of a beloved meal. Whatever it is, it definitely elicits a response.
If we can get so animated by our favorite words, just imagine the joy dogs experience when they hear theirs!
What Did You Say?!
Recently, a trend on social media took off where humans pretended to be on a phone call, casually mentioning their dogs’ favorite words. One dog owner decided to join in on the fun.
Sitting on the bed with her dog, Marvel, she held a remote control pretending it was a phone and began “chatting” with her friend.
Just like many dogs, Marvel is a fan of treats. Thus, she decided to start with that as the first word. Since peanut butter treats are his top choice, she made it a point to clarify.
“Did you get the treats? Well, he specifically wanted peanut butter. Yeah, peanut butter treats,” she commented in the video.
This certainly perked up Marvel’s ears!
The owner then proceeded to mention other beloved terms that resonate within the canine community.
“Yeah, because we are going to go for a ride later. We are going to go to… I believe we are going to take a ride and head to daycare camp,” she carried on.
Upon hearing the words ‘ride’ and ‘daycare camp,’ Marvel instantly began rolling his head around excitedly on the bed.

However, Marvel truly perked up when he caught wind of one specific name.
“Well, I’m not sure what we’ll do, but I’m hoping that Sarah will be there,” she mentioned.
The moment Marvel heard his owner say ‘Sarah,’ he was so thrilled that he practically leaped off the bed.
Next, she mentioned several other names, including Farrell, Grandma, and Bella, which further excited him.
Yet, the most amusing moment came when she mentioned tacos.
“Maybe we’ll go grab some tacos. We can go get a taco,” the owner suggested.
The instant Marvel heard the word ‘taco,’ he jumped up and dashed away.
This left his owner in fits of laughter as she was puzzled by the intense reaction—Marvel has never even tasted a taco!
“He has no idea what a taco is. He’s never had one!” she couldn’t contain her laughter.

What do you think caused Marvel to have such a strong reaction to an unfamiliar word?
My hunch is that he became overwhelmed by his cravings for his favorite things and needed a moment of solitude to regain his composure.
Regardless of the reason, I hope he got his taco in the end!
