Besides food, affection, and snuggling with their favorite human, every dog relishes the activity of gripping something with their teeth and chewing on it with fervor. This seemingly minor act allows the dog to establish an emotional connection to the object in question.
This is particularly evident in Labrador Retrievers, who are often seen with something in their mouths. Such was the case one day when a Lab and his owner discovered a stick during their walk.
The dog instantly grew attached to the stick, believing it to be his possession from that point forward. Unfortunately for him, his owner had different plans for it, pushing the pup to the edge of despair.
She Hurt His Feelings

On that day, in addition to taking her Labrador Retriever, Basil, for a stroll, his owner, Anna, had plans to find a stick for her artistic creation.
“The art was an early attempt at making a macramé wall hanging, made using special macramé string and a stick I found in the woods close to where I live,” Anna shared with Newsweek. “I decided I wanted to use natural wood to hang the string from for this wall hanging, so while walking Basil one morning, I found and picked up this stick.”
While Anna felt triumphant about finding a suitable stick, she was unaware that Basil had his sights set on it as well. When she noticed her dog developing an infatuation with the stick, she had to conceal it under her jacket to prevent him from snatching it.
Nonetheless, her efforts were futile as Basil’s fixation persisted upon returning home. While she was engaged in crafting her macramé wall hanging at the table, Basil incessantly whined and attempted to retrieve his cherished stick.
Anna eventually managed to thwart all his efforts and completed her DIY project. She thought that would be the end of it and that Basil would soon forget about it. Sadly, she couldn’t have been more mistaken.
“While I was in the other room, I could hear him whining, and went to see what the commotion was. And there he was, sitting in the bathroom, pining over the stick in the wall hanging I had just put up,” she recounted.
This moment was truly special, and Anna captured it on video and shared it on her TikTok profile, @basilionbrush.

Many People Reacted
This captivating video garnered significant attention on TikTok, eliciting numerous responses.
While some viewers found the scenario amusing, others criticized the owner for not sharing the stick with her dog.

“This needs the ‘Mom, what are you doing with my stuff?’ sound,” commented the popular @weratedogs account.
“In all fairness, if it’s a stick found on Basil’s walk, then it’s technically Basil’s stick. So give it back!! 😂,” chimed in another user.
Another viewer demanded justice for Basil: “Petition to give Basil his stick back.”
This was, in fact, the first video that Anna shared on TikTok, and it has already gone viral, much to her delight.
“I hoped it would bring someone a bit of joy to their day,” she reflected. “I didn’t anticipate so many people seeing the video or engaging with it—it was heartwarming to see that others enjoyed watching Basil’s quirky personality!”
