Dog Discovered in Mississippi Forest Remains Hopeful for Owner’s Return—Then a Remarkable Event Unfolds

Date:

Meet Halo – a fragile little girl discovered in the Mississippi woods, curled up and barely clinging to life. When the rescuers arrived following a report about a vicious Pitbull, they were heartbroken to find that Halo was not vicious at all. Instead, she was blind, neglected, and so emaciated that she seemed to be on the brink of giving up.

Stacey and her husband, Mike, are key figures in Mississippi’s rescue community, and if you’ve adopted a dog from the Lucky Dog Refuge in Stamford, Connecticut, it’s likely that Stacey helped give them a second chance. Halo was one of those fortunate dogs; when they found her in the woods, she was literally just a skeleton, existing as nothing but skin and bones.

With the aid of some tasty food, Stacey and her husband managed to coax Halo out of her hiding place, but the condition she was in was alarming. It became clear that Halo had suffered without basic necessities – food and shelter – for weeks, or perhaps even months. She had likely been used for breeding until she was deemed no longer ‘useful’ and was discarded.

“Her ears were cut with a pair of scissors, and she was most likely used for breeding. One eye is injured and damaged, the other is blind probably from an eye disease that should have been treated,” Stacey Frazier shared on Facebook.

The extent of terror this poor dog endured is unimaginable, but fortunately, she was rescued and found the right hands to care for her.

The Road To Recovery

They chose the name Halo because her survival was uncertain, but she proved to be a fighter. Stacey took her home, where she began her recovery with antibiotics and proper nutrition. During this process, there were several moments of doubt about her survival, but her determination shone through.

“We knew that her sight was definitely impaired, but we didn’t know if she was fully blind until the doctor confirmed it. We do think that she can see shadows, but she’ll just walk right into a telephone pole,” Jessica from Lucky Dog Refuge explained to The Dodo.

With Stacey, Halo finally learned what love means. For the first time, she was treated with kindness, and it made her incredibly happy. After months of healing, it was time for her to be transferred to the rescue in Connecticut, where Halo was a completely transformed dog, full of life and excitement.

Halo Found A Forever Home

Once Halo arrived at the rescue, she radiated joy—a stark contrast to her former self found in the woods. The shelter soon discovered her fondness for ice cream, which brought her immense happiness. “She lets us know every day that she’s grateful for everything that she has now. She’s just an angel,” Jessica remarked. However, there was still one crucial element missing—a loving forever home.

The beautiful moment came when Halo found the ideal forever home where she is thriving. Even better, her new family also adopted her best friend, Layne, ensuring that the two continue to live their best lives together.

Enjoy your new life, Halo, you truly deserve it!
