When Jordyn and Derek Slack opened their front door one day, they were deeply moved to find a severely malnourished Boxer puppy on their porch, looking at them with pleading eyes. The little pup, with no other place to go, put all his faith in this family, hoping for kindness and compassion.
Feeling heartbroken by his condition, Jordyn gently stroked him and vowed to help. They named him Jack and cared for him by providing food and water. Jordyn contacted the local shelter, and soon the staff arrived to take him to the vet, where they discovered he didn’t have a microchip.
Desiring to reunite Jack with his family, Jordyn posted about him on local Facebook pages, but unfortunately, there were no leads. They believed Jack hadn’t been on his own for long since he appeared clean and free of ticks.
When the shelter reached out to ask if the Slack family could foster him for the weekend, they eagerly agreed. They devoted themselves to caring for him, and at first, Jack spent much of his time resting and recovering.
Once Jack regained his energy, he met the couple’s daughter, Baylor, and the two quickly formed a strong bond. Jack wouldn’t leave her side, and they loved snuggling together.
“He has really taken up with our ten-year-old daughter Baylor. They are the best of friends. I think he has found his person. He follows her everywhere she goes… He loves and she really loves him…“ Slack shared in a TikTok video.
The Slack family fell in love with Jack and began to consider adopting him. However, their French Bulldog didn’t get along with him, which posed a significant challenge as the two dogs would fight if they were in the same room. Despite their attachment to Jack, the family realized they couldn’t keep him.
Determined to find him a good home, the Slacks were relieved when a kind man reached out expressing interest in adopting Jack. The man and his wife had extensive knowledge about Boxers; they had previously owned one that they cherished but had sadly passed away.
“As soon as the lady sat down, he jumped up in her lap and was licking her on the face. It was really sweet and they were so excited,” Jordyn shared on TikTok.
Since Jack now resides in Athens, Tennessee, where his foster family lives, Baylor can visit him whenever she wants. Though they feel sad about not being able to keep Jack, the Slack family is confident they made the right choice for his future. He will receive all the love and attention he deserves in his new home.
