Stray dogs are a common sight in cities worldwide, with many adapting to life on the streets. Unfortunately, those abandoned after years of indoor living find it particularly challenging to adjust. Some remain hopeful, waiting for their former owners, despite the slim chances of being reunited. One such case was especially dire.
One pup was abandoned in a cage, left freezing for hours until help arrived from kind rescuers.
Rise’s New Hope
When the rescuers from Kings Harvest Pet Rescue No Kill Shelter in Iowa found the dog exposed to freezing conditions, they were shocked. Her owner was witnessed abandoning her on the street near the old shelter building, likely under the erroneous belief that someone would be there to help her immediately.
Unfortunately, the building had been vacant for months. Reviewing CCTV footage showed the heartbreaking moment when the dog, now named Rise, followed her owner to the kennel only to be left behind.
The team noticed that Rise was limping and appeared to have suffered severe neglect. A Good Samaritan spotted her and called for assistance. Upon their arrival, the rescuers were horrified by her condition. Caring for her was their immediate priority, and they rushed her to the shelter for much-needed medical attention.
She Will Bounce Back
Now safe, Rise received the medical care needed for her recovery. Thankfully, she did not suffer from serious health conditions, ensuring a swift healing process. However, she requires vaccinations before being eligible for adoption or a foster home.
The rescuers are already exploring fostering options, eager to find temporary parents who will care for her until she finds her forever home.
The story behind her abandonment remains unclear. The owner might have had better options, such as surrendering her directly to the shelter if he could no longer care for her. Kings Harvest Pet Rescue No Kill Shelter urges individuals in similar situations to seek help instead of resorting to abandonment.
Thanks to the compassion of a stranger, this needful pup was rescued in time and has been given a second chance at life. She deserves so much more in the future.
