Sometimes, a little bit of faith is all you need. When Ladybird, a senior black Lab, found herself in a park bathroom in Destrehan, Louisiana, she held onto hope. Her owner, facing a challenging situation, temporarily left her there with a heartbreaking note.

It didn’t take long for kind rescuers to find this sweet doggo, but that day, she received more than just a simple rescue. This is her story!

Ladybird’s journey began in a public bathroom for a heartbreaking reason. She and her owner had shared nine wonderful years together, exploring the country inseparably since she was just six weeks old. Whenever the road grew tough, they returned to North Carolina for some family time before continuing their adventures.

However, their luck changed when her owner found himself homeless in Louisiana. Without a car or a roof over their heads, he made the difficult decision to leave Ladybird overnight in a bathroom, attaching a note imploring anyone who found her to be kind. He left water for her, promising to return the next morning.

Journey Home

The next morning, when her owner returned, Ladybird was gone. He quickly contacted animal control, who informed him she was taken to the St. Charles Parish Animal Shelter. The shelter staff, moved by Ladybird’s story, decided to step in to help this loyal pair who had been together for so long.

The St. Charles Parish Animal Shelter reached out to the Virginia Beach SPCA to facilitate Ladybird’s transfer to them. This incredible team ensured she received a nice bath, a day of pampering at a local spa, and as a reward, they treated her to a tasty pupachino.

After her story gained traction, several pet organizations collaborated to raise funds for Ladybird’s flight home while providing her with medical care and supplies. Eventually, she reunited at her family home in North Carolina, where her grandma was waiting.

The reunion was joyous, and her owner later updated his dog’s rescuers, expressing that Ladybird was thriving with her family in North Carolina. The VBSPCA team shared, “Ladybird is doing wonderfully with her family! We want everyone to know that her human in Louisiana is also happy to see her back home.” After all the hardship, they finally found their way back to a normal life, thanks to the compassionate efforts of many animal lovers.
