Many people fail to comprehend the fragility of a dog’s heart. If they recognized the depth of heartbreak these four-legged companions experience each time they part from their loved ones, they’d rush to give them the biggest hug possible.
Sadly, in Bruce’s case, he received a cruel goodbye instead of that hug. After seven years of love for his family, they “rewarded” him with abandonment in the middle of the night, disappearing into the darkness.
They Just Drove Away
I can’t imagine the pain Bruce felt watching his owners’ car drive away while he was left tied to a tree in front of the Humane Society of Broward County, Florida. “My family tied me to a tree at the shelter in the middle of the night and then they drove away. I didn’t know what to do, so I cried into the night,” the rescue shared on social media.
He waited in vain for the familiar sound of their car, but it never came. Fortunately, a compassionate passerby discovered him and notified the Florida rescue, leading to Bruce being taken inside and showered with love—yet he remained deeply affected by the betrayal of his former family.
This 7-year-old dog literally shut himself off from the world, turning away from everyone. So devastated, Bruce lacked the strength to lift his head and engage with anyone. His caregivers decided to place a note on his kennel door, detailing Bruce’s plight in hopes of expediting his adoption process.
“I loved them so much. Since I’ve been here, I’ve been very down in the dumps,” the note explains.
