Paloma, a sweet deaf puppy, never thought her mother would abandon her. They shared a deep bond.
Sadly, Paloma’s mother began dating a man who mistreated her, leading to her decision to hand her over to a rescue organization.
Bullies and Buddies Rescue in Redondo Beach, California, welcomed Paloma into their care.
Stripped of a loving environment and a sense of safety, Paloma began her journey at the rescue, yearning for compassionate humans who would never abandon her.
Due to her deafness, she was unfortunately bypassed by many potential adopters.
Searching For A Home
As the days passed, Paloma continued to hope for someone to see her value and offer her a loving home.
The rescue found her a caring foster mother, who showered her with love and attention.
Paloma’s hope for a better future started to blossom.
Her rescue friends frequently shared Paloma’s pictures on social media to enhance her chances of finding a forever home.
Meanwhile, a woman named Missy was searching for a canine companion for her lonely pup, Rocky Road.
Missy frequently came across Paloma’s photos on Instagram and instantly fell for her. Although she had never owned a differently-abled dog before, she opted to foster Paloma.
Almost immediately after settling in with her foster family, Paloma formed a strong bond with them.
Missy and her family were enchanted by Paloma, realizing that this delightful dog belonged with them.
Finding Her Forever Family
From the moment Rocky met Paloma, he felt an immediate connection with her. This charming pup recognized that his new sister needed support, and he took it upon himself to be her protector and guide.
Missy and her family use a few signs with Paloma, but she primarily depends on Rocky.
“We’ve implemented a few signs, but Rocky is primarily the one who helps her understand. He clearly senses that she needs additional assistance. He does his best to support her,” Missy shared with GeoBeats Animals.
Whenever their mother offers them treats, Rocky gently nudges Paloma to let her know it’s time for a snack.
The two pups love spending time together and snuggling side by side.
Rocky discovered a true friend in Paloma, alleviating his loneliness. Meanwhile, Paloma felt safe and understood with her big brother.
The two of them became inseparable companions.
The Perfect Pair
Rocky and Paloma enjoy interacting with their canine companions, but Rocky is notably protective when they encounter unfamiliar dogs.
“There have been times when we’ve met other dogs, and he instantly adopts a protective stance. Paloma may want to play, but Rocky doesn’t trust the other dog, so he stays close to her,” Missy explained.
Upon Rocky’s adoption, he faced discrimination from neighbors who expressed their disdain for having a Pit Bull in the area.
However, with his charming personality, Rocky managed to change their hearts and win them over.
Missy values both of her pups dearly, considering Paloma to be her little princess. This loving pup has an abundance of affection to share with her human family and older furry sibling.
Missy hopes that more individuals will see that dogs with disabilities can be loving companions and lead fulfilling lives.
“Being a deaf dog has made me realize that it’s really not a big issue. There are many differently abled dogs out there—some are deaf, some are blind—and they can all have a loving, wonderful home,” Missy noted.
Rocky and Paloma are living their best lives in California, filled with joy and surrounded by their perfect family.
