Having a deaf dog can be quite challenging. They often face difficulties that other dogs don’t have to endure.
This can make even the simplest tasks seem daunting for them. However, this does not mean they deserve any less attention.
Despite their disabilities, it’s essential that we learn how to assist them in navigating their world and adapting to their circumstances.
Sadly, many people may overlook them in favor of other dogs, which is unjust, as deaf dogs are just as capable of being affectionate companions given the opportunity.
Take Pickle, for instance. He was surrendered to the shelter by his former owner, but he was fortunate enough to cross paths with someone who would transform his life.
The New Chapter for Pickle
Molly encountered Pickle while volunteering at the rescue center where he was housed. His previous owner could no longer care for him, leading to his stay there.
From the start, Molly realized he was not like the other dogs. Being deaf, he required additional assistance.
Upon seeing him, Molly recognized that he was deeply unhappy. Most days, he would simply lie in a corner without much engagement.
Given that Pickle had been at the shelter for several months without his owner, it’s no surprise that he was feeling despondent.
Molly shared with GeoBeats Animals: “I went home and told my family all about him. They fell for him immediately, and we decided to adopt him.”
Life took a turn for the better when Pickle joined Molly’s family. Molly had never owned a dog before, let alone a deaf one.
The situation was new for her, but her love for Pickle motivated her to provide him with an enriching life.
Pickle’s Passion for Training
Molly and her family dedicated a lot of time to training Pickle, transforming him into an affectionate and confident dog.
She further revealed: “He turned me into a passionate dog advocate who adopts deaf rescue dogs.”
As a result, she also adopted Lilly, another deaf dog. Lilly, however, also faced challenges with her vision.
Molly was determined to assist Lilly with her challenges. She noticed that many individuals were apprehensive about Lilly.
The fact that Lilly rarely blinked gave some people the impression that she might be upset or aggressive.
When Molly opted to adopt deaf dogs, she was aware that it would be a challenge. She committed to months of training.
She explained: “It can take months or even years to make progress, but it’s essential to celebrate every step forward.”
Significant Progress for Pickle
It was a remarkable success when Molly helped Pickle face his fear of people, making her incredibly proud.
Pickle is an extraordinary dog. Among his favorite pastimes are snuggling with nearly everyone, lounging on the couch, and taking cozy naps.
Yet he’s not all about sleep. He also enjoys hiking mountains alongside Molly, and she loves having him by her side during these adventures.
Pickle’s impact on Molly’s life cannot be overstated. Having both him and Lilly has enriched her life in every possible way.
Though Pickle is aging and now 10 years old, Molly is grateful that he has the opportunity to spend his life with someone who loves him.
