This holiday season filled the heart of a remarkable dog named Granite with delight as he arrived at the Jacksonville Humane Society, hopeful for a new beginning.
Unbeknownst to him, his festive wishes were about to be realized. Just before the New Year, Granite unwrapped the most heartwarming gift imaginable – a forever family!
Meet the Extraordinary Granite

Upon his arrival at the Jacksonville Humane Society, this six-year-old dog quickly captured the hearts of everyone with his luxurious gray coat.
But Granite’s velvety fur wasn’t the only thing that set him apart.
Soon, it became evident that Granite possessed another remarkable quality – he was deaf. Recognizing this difference highlighted his need for additional assistance in connecting with potential adopters to find a loving home.

To enhance Granite’s experience and interaction with potential adopters, the Humane Society took a thoughtful step— they named him ‘Dog Day Out Adventure Dog.’
This unique program allows dogs like Granite to embark on numerous city adventures with a variety of companions.
“Granite had the chance to explore Jacksonville alongside many friends, including one particularly special person — Jordyn,” shared the Jacksonville Humane Society in a Facebook post.
Jordyn, a local college student, took it upon herself to take Granite on not just one, but two memorable Dog Day Out Adventures in early December.
It didn’t take long for her to fall head over heels for this lovable dog; after their second outing, she made the wonderful decision to adopt him!

“Granite has a big personality and is an amazing companion. He has adjusted beautifully here and cuddles like none other. Deep down, I felt he was meant to be mine. I am truly fortunate to provide him with a loving home. He’s my soulmate in dog form,” Jordyn expressed to the Jacksonville Humane Society.
This heartwarming story reached a perfect conclusion, thanks to the wonderful initiative that unites dogs and their new companions.
Introducing the ‘Dog Day Out’ Program

If you are unfamiliar with this initiative, here’s the essence of the program.
According to the JHS, the ‘Dog Day Out’ program connects guests with adoptable dogs, creating lasting memories for everyone involved.
The beauty of this program is its simplicity – all you need to do is visit the JHS during adoption hours and choose a dog with a ‘Dog Day Out’ tag.
The Humane Society provides all necessary supplies and guidance to make it easy for participants.

“This program enables our dogs to enjoy a day away from the shelter and return feeling much more at ease. Dog Day Out also serves as a fantastic means to introduce our pups to potential adopters within the community,” the Humane Society shared on their website.
This special initiative is designed to enhance the well-being of the dogs while fostering meaningful connections that may lead to forever homes.
As Granite begins his journey in his new home, his story is a heartfelt reminder of the profound impact of the program.
