Curious Dog Causes House Fire While Playing with Stove

Date:

In the realm of pets, it’s commonly assumed that curiosity defines cats. Cats are known for their knack for exploring, often sticking their little noses into places they shouldn’t.

However, you’ll soon discover that another furry companion has also succumbed to their inquisitive nature.

One morning, a dog from Colorado decided to roam his house, investigating every corner, and when he reached the kitchen, he did something that jeopardized his entire family’s safety.

While exploring the kitchen, the pup spotted some boxes perched on the stove.

Believing there might be a tasty treat inside, he stood on his hind legs like a human and sniffed the boxes.

Unfortunately, he accidentally pressed one of the stove knobs, turning it on.

As the stove heated up, the boxes caught fire, prompting the pup to scamper away in fear.

Fortunately, the homeowners had an Apple HomePod that alerted them with a “High Heat” notification, waking them immediately.

When one of the owners rushed to investigate, he was stunned to find a small fire in the kitchen!

He quickly grabbed a fire extinguisher and managed to douse the flames before calling the Colorado Police Department.

Assistance Arrives

“During their investigation, crews confirmed there was no active fire but found remnants of one. The male homeowner successfully extinguished it before emergency services arrived but was later taken to a local hospital for smoke inhalation. Thankfully, there were no injuries reported for humans or pets,” stated the Colorado Springs Fire Department in a Facebook update.

Curious about the fire’s cause, the owners reviewed the security footage, which revealed the entire incident!

“The video showed their pup being curious and inadvertently turning on the oven with boxes resting on it,” they explained.

Fortunately, no one was harmed, and the pet owners learned an important lesson – never leave items on the stove!

The fire department seized this opportunity to remind everyone that such accidents can be avoided with precautionary measures.

“It’s crucial to always have functioning smoke alarms in every sleeping area and on every floor of your home, to keep all combustible materials away from the stovetop/oven, and to know at least two exit routes from every room in case of a fire,” they concluded.

I’m relieved to hear that both the pup and his family emerged unscathed that day.

Nonetheless, I’m confident this little pup learned a valuable lesson – leave curiosity to the cats!
