Couple Engaged in Wedding Plans Adopts Injured Puppy, Welcoming Him into Their Family

Date:

While a delighted bride anticipated her special day, she could never have envisioned that one of her attendees would be a cute, furry companion cheering her on during the festivities.

Alyssa and her fiancé, Logan, were engrossed in wedding planning when, on a coffee run post-gym, Logan noticed an injured stray dog attempting to cross a bustling road.

The couple quickly recognized the peril the poor pup was in and felt compelled to take action.

The soon-to-be newlyweds sensed that the pup’s limp indicated he had been struck and would likely be very frightened. Their hunch was correct.

As they approached him, the dog mustered all his strength and dashed away. Fortunately, the couple was able to corner him behind a shopping center, which allowed them to begin building his trust.

“I got down on the ground to his level, sat on the concrete, and slowly tried to coax him closer. After several minutes, he finally limped over and collapsed into my lap,” Alyssa recounted to Newsweek.

Without delay, they rushed the pup to the vet in hopes he had a microchip and a worried family looking for him. Alas, that wasn’t the case.

“We were fervently hoping he would have a family that loved him and was just misplaced! He had no microchip, collar, and was not neutered,” Alyssa shared.

In Search Of A Home

The couple began sharing pictures of the pup, who they named Campbell, across social media, hoping someone would recognize his adorable face and reunite him with his family.

“Users on the Next Door app informed us they spotted him wandering around the intersection and parking lots a few days before we found him. We suspect he was likely abandoned in that busy area,” she noted.

However, Campbell couldn’t wait for someone to claim him, as he urgently needed surgery for his fractured leg.

“The complex fracture was already damaging his joint structure, and the veterinarian warned us that without prompt surgical intervention, the joint could collapse entirely,” Alyssa explained.

Since the surgery was intricate and costly, Alyssa and Logan sought assistance. Fortunately, Cody’s Friends Rescue, a nonprofit in Texas, came to the rescue.

They covered part of the expenses and set up a GoFundMe page that successfully raised the entire $8,000 needed for Campbell’s medical care.

Moreover, since Alyssa and Logan’s shared affection for animals is what initially united them, caring for their newfound companion was a natural decision.

“We felt an instant connection with him in that first week. It was as if the perfect dog we had always dreamed about just landed in our lap,” Alyssa remarked.

However, with wedding plans and a honeymoon to organize, the couple entrusted Campbell to Alyssa’s parents during this hectic time. Yet, the adorable rescue pup was always in their thoughts and hearts.

New Life

Now, this amazing pup’s leg has fully healed, with his joint fused using a metal plate. While he can’t bend his leg like a regular dog, Campbell doesn’t let that diminish his joy.

Living with Alyssa and Logan, they noticed that the pup was already house trained and knew several basic commands, suggesting he might have once belonged to a family.

“Campbell tends to show fear toward certain things. For example, if I hold a shoe, he immediately shrinks away in trepidation. He’s also notably cautious, as if he’s concerned about causing any damage around the house,” she commented.

Nonetheless, Campbell is truly thriving. He is a joyful pup who revels in his time with his humans and other dogs, having fun and enjoying life, and his newfound parents couldn’t be happier.

“Finding Campbell turned our lives upside down, disrupted all our plans, and changed us forever, but he is the best gift we’ve ever received. We are eternally grateful he found his way to us,” Alyssa reflected.
