Sugar, the Pittie rescued by kind-hearted individuals in California, took it to another level!
This incredible dog girl left her humans in awe with an unexpected litter, despite being in her senior years. Here’s her story…
Sugar Mom Defying the Odds
Briana and John Flores, founders of the IPittytheBull Foundation in California, opened their hearts to Sugar Mama when no one else would. Even though she came with numerous medical issues, they welcomed her with open arms!
Having been overbred and in poor health from numerous pregnancies, Sugar also struggled with skin issues.
But what her rescuers didn’t realize was that Sugar harbored a significant secret – she was pregnant!
It was hard to fathom that this senior pup would soon become a mother, but as her belly grew, Briana and John ensured she received the finest care available!
“We love this girl so much and it would be untrue to say we aren’t worried about her, but she has already overcome so many challenges that she deserves our faith, not our anxieties,” the IPTB team shared on Facebook.
Before long, Sugar Mama went into labor, and just hours later, she brought three gorgeous puppies into the world – Cookie, Cane, and Cube.
Initially, everything appeared fine until Briana and John realized that Sugar Mama was not doing well.
She wasn’t producing milk and barely ate or drank water. It was clear that this senior mother lacked the strength to care for her newborns, so Briana stepped in.
She provided round-the-clock feeding for all three puppies, offering them a bottle every two hours for their first several weeks, which allowed them to gain healthy weight and begin weaning.
Transitioning to Foster Care
After receiving vital veterinary care, Sugar immediately began to feel more like herself! She started eating properly and underwent her long-awaited spay surgery.
Despite her senior status, she radiated vibrancy and personality! After her last litter, she received an exceptional foster mom.
Sesil and her wonderful family welcomed Sugar, providing the senior girl with a nurturing environment during her twilight years.
“We hesitated to raise our hopes, but when they chose to open their home to her, we were ecstatic! They are well-respected individuals, and we trust they will provide mama with all the love and care she needs,” shared IPTB.
Initially, Sugar was meant to stay temporarily in Sesil’s home, but it didn’t take long for her to become a foster success story! The family fell in love with this Pittie in no time, ultimately deciding to adopt her permanently!
Once a tired dog burdened with multiple health concerns and no safe haven, Sugar Mama has finally found her long-sought sanctuary – a caring family and a cozy home!
