When a family in Banbury, Connecticut, heard high-pitched cries, they decided to investigate. Following the sounds, they arrived at a concrete porch where they found a mama cat with her two kittens, but the cries were not coming from them. The family continued their search and eventually spotted a narrow opening between the steps and the house, just large enough for small kittens to slip through. Holding their breath in anticipation of another cry, they confirmed it was indeed coming from the opening.
How Did It Get There?

The family wasted no time contacting the Danbury Fire Department (DFD) for assistance. In a Facebook post, the DFD detailed: “Tonight, a family discovered two small kittens who had fallen between a masonry wall and some pre-cast concrete stairs. The kittens were stuck tight between the concrete and couldn’t be reached.”
Rescue Mission
After attempting to save the kittens from above, the DFD realized it wouldn’t work and came up with a new plan. They decided to use rescue airbags and wedge them, along with blocks of wood, between the house and stairs.

“Utilizing rescue airbags, just enough force was exerted to add about a quarter inch of space, allowing the kittens to fall into the void below the stairs,” the DFD shared. The kittens fell an additional distance, landing safely on the ground, unharmed. Fortunately, the DFD was already working on retrieving them from the other side.

“[The] firefighters removed two rocks in an adjoining wall, and then they were able to reach in with a snare and capture both kittens,” the DFD stated. After a nerve-wracking mission, the firefighters successfully rescued the fluffy kittens.

Everyone present celebrated the kittens’ rescue, from the cheering humans to the mama cat and her other kittens. “The two rogue kittens were reunited with their mom and siblings, and the neighborhood was relieved,” the DFD concluded.

Final Word
Ultimately, the adorable kittens were happily reunited with their family, who were overjoyed at the successful rescue. Hopefully, they’ve learned to stick to the plush grass around and avoid any more mishaps.
