Amanda Lane Sherrod is a devoted dog rescuer and seasoned foster parent.
Upon learning that Denali, a soon-to-be-mother dog, required an urgent foster home to avoid euthanasia, Amanda stepped in without hesitation.
With no other foster options available, Amanda became Denali’s sole chance for salvation.
When Denali arrived at Amanda’s residence, she was visibly pregnant, expecting to give birth very shortly.
Frightened Denali
Denali was initially terrified and wary of humans, growling and shrinking away whenever Amanda or her spouse, Casey, came close.
Amanda suspected that Denali’s past experiences with people had been traumatic, leading to her intense fear.
Amanda and Casey dedicated themselves to earning Denali’s trust.
“We devoted a lot of time to sitting on the ground with her and gently petting her,” Amanda recounted to The Dodo.
Slowly but surely, Denali began to receive their affection and started to blossom. She understood that her foster moms genuinely cared for her and wished to help.
The adorable pup started wagging her tail, gazing at her foster moms with hope and a broad smile.
After two weeks at her foster home, Denali started to give birth to her puppies.
“She delivered each puppy approximately 15 to 20 minutes apart. I kept thinking: ‘Alright, that should be the last one.’ Then another puppy would arrive. She ended up having 11. She was such a champ,” Amanda remarked.
The puppies, like their mother, were named after national parks: Rocky, Yosi, Baddie, Sequoia, Jasper, Boone, Archie, Raini, Kenai, Acadia, and Zion.
Denali came to trust Amanda, allowing her to care for her precious puppies.
This loving dog proved to be an excellent mother, nursing her puppies, caring for them, and showering them with affection.
The Adorable Canine Family Finds Happiness
Each of the puppies thrived, developing into joyful and spirited dogs.
A rescue organization specializing in pregnant dogs and puppies, Path of Hope Rescue in Spokane, Washington, assisted them in finding loving forever homes.
Denali expressed deep gratitude to her foster family for their unwavering love and the efforts they made for her and her pups.
“She was so thankful. Every time you looked at her you could see the thankfulness in her eyes,” Amanda remarked.
Denali’s story culminated in a joyful ending as she settled into her forever family.
Denali now enjoys an idyllic life surrounded by humans who love her deeply.
In 2022, Amanda established Determined to Rise Animal Foundation, a non-profit organization based in Illinois committed to rescuing abused, abandoned, and neglected animals.
