Compassionate Nurse Rescues Dog of Deceased Patient When No One Comes to Claim Him from the Shelter

Date:

When a dog finds a caring family, it often takes some time for them to adapt to their new surroundings.

However, once they settle in, that place quickly becomes their new favorite spot.

It offers them a sense of safety and solace, along with their most treasured possession – their human.

When Bear Bear was rescued from the SPCA of Texas and welcomed into a loving forever home, he was overjoyed. Unfortunately, after the unexpected death of his owner, he was left without a plan for his future.

What’s Next?

Bear Bear’s original owner was discovered unconscious in their vehicle with him inside. Sadly, the owner passed away shortly after reaching the hospital, leaving Bear Bear to return to the shelter.

The Texas shelter embraced him back with open arms, ensuring he received ample love and support after the distressing situation he faced.

When Dezorey Arocha, the nurse who assisted Bear Bear’s owner at the hospital, heard from a detective that he had returned to the shelter without any family to claim him, she knew she had to act fast.

“I didn’t know his name. I didn’t know if he was male or female. All I could think about was how sad he must be,” Arocha shared with People.

Arocha, together with another nurse, began searching local animal shelters, determined to find Bear Bear.

For eleven restless days, those nurses searched. The lack of any information about the dog made the task even more challenging.

But then, suddenly, Arocha learned that the dog was named Bear Bear, allowing her to track him down on the SPCA of Texas’ website.

A Fresh Start

When they located him, officials scanned his microchip and found out he originally belonged to the SPCA of Texas. Thus, they decided it was best to return him to their care.

“We have a policy that we will always take back our alumni, no matter how crowded we are. That’s how Bear Bear returned to us for the second time,” remarked Chris Luna, the CEO and President of the SPCA of Texas.

As soon as Arocha spotted Bear Bear on their website, she immediately emailed them to convey her situation and express her wish to meet the adorable pup.

Meeting face-to-face ignited a beautiful bond between the two.

“In the greeting room, he was charming and sweet. He was incredibly gentle yet joyfully excitable, a true puppy at heart,” the nurse recalls.

It was evident to all that Bear Bear was heading home as an adopted dog that day!

“It just felt right. I can’t explain why I was so drawn to him,” she adds.

Deserving of Love

At last, Bear Bear can unwind and enjoy his new home, surrounded by the love and attention he rightfully deserves.

Although I’m sure he will always cherish memories of his past owner, having Arocha by his side brings a smile to his face.

What an amazing journey!
