The plight of black shelter Pitties finding forever homes continues across the nation. Often overlooked due to their color, these beautiful dogs face an uphill battle similar to their feline counterparts, with many sadly ending up euthanized.
One such Pittie, Arlo, was on the brink of being put down at a shelter in Bakersfield, California, consistently passed over until a compassionate woman decided to give him a chance.
Arlo’s Story

Donna Clark, from Soul 2 Soul Animal Rescue, in Roseburg, Oregon, was alerted about Arlo. A transporter informed her that this black Pittie mix was at risk of euthanasia alongside other dogs unless someone stepped up soon.
Clark quickly agreed to take in Arlo, aware of the difficulty in finding a home for a black Pittie. She stated, “For dog breeds, the hardest dog to place is a black pit bull,” according to a post by Soul 2 Soul Animal Rescue on Facebook.

In just days, Arlo’s goofy and energetic disposition charmed everyone around him. He soon found a forever home with a big family, but unfortunately, he was returned after just a month due to concerns about his high energy potentially harming the children. As noted by the S2SAR team, “They returned him because of his energetic zoomies as the wife was afraid he would hurt one of their children,” in a Facebook post.

Clark was devastated to see Arlo back in the shelter after finally finding his match. Confused and exhibiting signs of depression from losing his family, Arlo got a second chance with a wonderful foster home and an experienced caretaker determined to help him recover.
The Day Has Finally Come

After some time, Arlo returned to his playful self in foster care, ready for adoption once again. Though he was adored, Clark and her team sought a family that could provide him with ample energy and attention, ideally with a spacious, fenced yard.
Then the moment they waited for finally arrived! A woman came to meet Arlo and instantly fell for his sweet nature, deciding without hesitation to bring him home.
“We are so very happy for our beautiful boy and tonight feeling very accomplished that we placed the hardest type of dog there is out there,” his caregivers shared on Facebook.
Alongside his new human family, Arlo also gained a sister adopted from the Central Point dog rescue. Today, they savor life to the fullest, frolicking joyfully in the yard and relishing every moment.
Clark couldn’t be happier to see Arlo finally settling in with his forever family. After all the challenges he faced, he certainly deserves all the love this world has to offer!
