Can you imagine the heartbreak dogs experience when they are surrendered by those they trust most? It’s a pain I can’t fathom, one filled with sleepless nights and the stress of loud shelter environments, leaving them with no space to decompress or start anew.
Jodi, a sweet Chihuahua mix, knows this agony all too well. He has been surrendered an astonishing five times, and through it all, he wasn’t at fault even once. It’s heartbreaking to think of his life as a series of betrayals, piece by piece.
It Wasn’t His Fault

Imagine a lively Chihuahua mix puppy bursting with energy, eager to embrace the world around him. That was Jodi! As one of the most enthusiastic residents at Valley Animal Center in Fresno, California, he welcomed his first adopters with open paws, overjoyed to enter a forever home. However, heartbreak soon followed when he was returned, with the family claiming he was “too hyperactive” for their liking.

Despite this setback, Jodi and his caregivers remained hopeful. They knew his second chance would come, and they were right! The next family instantly fell for him, and off they went to start a new chapter. However, Jodi’s happiness was short-lived; he was surrendered again, this time because he “didn’t do well with the kids.” The same pattern repeated itself two more times—once due to a family move that excluded him, and another due to his new family’s “lack of free time.” Yet, through all these changes, Jodi never lost his charm, easy-going nature, and sweetness, still dreaming of a loving forever home.
“It’s not his fault! Jodi is a sweet boy who loves to run and play in a nice-sized yard. He’s still at the perfect age to learn and thrive with little training,” the California rescue stated on Facebook.
In what seemed like the final blow, Jodi faced another heart-wrenching moment: his last family had to move, leaving him behind once more. With five heartbreaks under his little belt, it would be easy for anyone to shut down. Yet, Jodi remains resilient, reminding us never to lose hope.
Jodi Is Still Hoping

Despite the challenges he has faced, Jodi remains hopeful for the day when his forever parents will walk through that shelter door. As VAC rightly puts it, “Jodi’s journey has been tough—too active, didn’t do well with kids, owners moved, no time, moved again. Through it all, he’s still searching for his forever home. Could you be the one to give him the love he deserves?” With no grudge against his past, Jodi continues to greet everyone with kind eyes, cuddles, and his sweet doggy spirit.
There’s ample reason to be optimistic: Jodi still has plenty of time ahead of him. He’s young, with a lot of love to give, and would make an incredible companion for snuggles or outdoor adventures. Good luck, Jodi! You undeniably deserve a chance at happiness!
