Chicago Woman Rescues Malnourished Pup, Leading to an Incredible Turn of Events

Date:

While dropping his child off at school, a man spotted Sugar Snap, a local dog, emaciated and stranded on the roadside, pleading for help. He quickly stopped his car, rescued the dog, and took him to the nearest police station in Chicago, hoping the officers could assist.

Fortunately, the officers promptly contacted the local animal shelter, explaining Sugar Snap’s condition. With guidance from Chicago Animal Care and Control, the dedicated officers carefully transported Sugar Snap to the shelter.

Long Road To Recovery

Upon evaluation by their medical team, it was determined that Sugar Snap should be transferred to One Tail at a Time. After taking him in, the staff performed a comprehensive examination and discovered that Sugar Snap couldn’t walk or stand unassisted. However, when offered tasty food, his spirit was evident – this pup was determined not to give up!

They quickly initiated treatment funded by compassionate supporters of their cause. A transfusion helped stabilize his vitals and boost his energy. The veterinary team continues adjusting his treatment plan, ensuring he remains comfortable. “He’s in excellent hands,” One Tail at a Time posted on Facebook.

Although Sugar Snap faced a challenging night with fluctuating blood pressure and blood glucose, he bounced back thanks to the blood transfusion and more food. “Some of his values dropped on Sunday which was alarming, so his veterinary team devised a plan with an NG tube and blood transfusion,” they updated on Facebook.

After some time, Sugar Snap felt significantly better, prompting the vet team to remove his feeding tube, allowing him to continue gaining weight independently – and indeed he did! His motivation to improve led him not only to gain weight but also to start walking!

Witnessing his remarkable recovery, the staff agreed it was time for him to go to a foster home. “Today, after three weeks, Sugar Snap left the emergency hospital walking on his own. He will be fostered by one of the veterinarians who treated him, continuing to regain strength and health,” the rescue shared on Facebook.

New Life

Adjusting to a loving and joyful home environment, Sugar Snap thrived. His health steadily improved, revealing the handsome dog he was always meant to be. “We’re celebrating two weeks in foster care and are thrilled to report he has reached nearly 34 lbs, is more mobile than ever, and has even learned to beg for food. Is this really the same dog?!” they celebrated.

In just a month, Sugar Snap had transformed into a vibrant dog, doubling his weight from 19 lbs to an impressive 40 lbs! His foster mom, impressed by his progress, decided she couldn’t say goodbye and adopted him.

Now living his best life, Sugar Snap enjoys the love of his new family, including a dog brother named Fitz and a cat brother named Noodle. With both parents being veterinarians, he truly is in the perfect environment. “We couldn’t have asked for a happier ending for this lucky Chicago stray,” concluded One Tail at a Time on Facebook.
