Chicago Woman Rescues Malnourished Pup, Leading to an Incredible Transformation

Date:

While driving his child to school, a man came across Sugar Snap, a local pup in dire condition, emaciated and pleading for help. He promptly stopped his car, scooped up the dog, and rushed him to the nearest police station in Chicago, hoping for assistance.

The police officers swiftly reached out to a local animal shelter, notifying them of Sugar Snap’s plight. Following instructions, they carefully transported the pup to Chicago Animal Care and Control.

Long Road To Recovery

Upon assessment, the medical team determined that Sugar Snap needed to be transferred to One Tail at a Time. There, the staff conducted a comprehensive examination and discovered that Sugar Snap was unable to walk or even stand. However, when offered some nourishing food, he perked up, making it evident that this pup had a fighting spirit!

With the support of benevolent donors, Sugar Snap received a transfusion that stabilized his vitals and boosted his energy. “His vet team is adjusting his medication and ensuring he stays comfortable,” reported One Tail at a Time on Facebook.

After a challenging night, Sugar Snap’s blood pressure and glucose levels dropped. Fortunately, after receiving a blood transfusion and more food, he rebounded. “When his levels dropped on Sunday, our veterinary team devised a plan that incorporated an NG tube and blood transfusion,” they shared in a update.

After some time, as Sugar Snap’s condition improved, the veterinary team opted to remove his feeding tube, anticipating that he would continue to gain weight on his own. And he did! Not only did he gain weight, but he also began to walk again!

Witnessing his stunning recovery, the staff recognized he was prepared for a foster home. “After three weeks, Sugar Snap left the emergency hospital walking independently. He will be fostered by one of his veterinarians, where he will regain his health and strength,” the rescue announced in a Facebook post.

New Life

Experiencing the joy of a loving home, Sugar Snap flourished. His health steadily improved, revealing the handsome pup he was meant to be. “Celebrating two weeks in foster care, we’re thrilled to report he’s nearly weighing 34 lbs, is more active than ever, and has even learned to beg for food. Can you believe this is the same dog?!” they shared.

Within a month, Sugar Snap transformed into a new dog, doubling his weight from 19 lbs to an impressive 40 lbs! His foster mom, recognizing his determination and improvement, decided she couldn’t bear to say goodbye and chose to adopt him.

Now, Sugar Snap enjoys an idyllic life filled with love, not only from his new family but also from his furry siblings. “Sugar now has a dog brother named Fitz and a cat brother named Noodle. Both of his parents are veterinarians! We couldn’t have asked for a happier ending for this lucky Chicago stray,” concluded One Tail at a Time on their page.
