Among numerous tales of abandonment I have encountered, Nova’s story stands out as one of the most heart-wrenching.
This sweet boy was discarded in a dumpster like rubbish, completely innocent in the matter. Terrified, disoriented, and isolated, he awaited someone to show him compassion.
However, Nova gained much more than a second chance at life. He was embraced by a family who continually ensured the individual who abandoned him knew that Nova was thriving.
Life Has Been Challenging for Nova
When an unsuspecting individual discovered Nova in the dumpster, they were astounded.
Upon lifting the tarp that concealed him, they came across a large, infected wound that had caused significant swelling in his leg. Without delay, they rushed Nova to the veterinary clinic, where he was taken in by the compassionate team at PAWS Chicago.
Regrettably, his leg could not be salvaged, resulting in Nova becoming a three-legged pup.
“Nova was discovered in a dumpster with a massive and badly infected wound. The extent of the infection was so severe that he required an amputation to prevent sepsis,” stated PAWS Chicago in an Instagram post.
Moreover, he bore numerous scars and cuts over his body, revealing that he had experienced significant abuse and neglect in the past. Nevertheless, none of that deterred Nova from living life joyfully and enthusiastically!
“On his first day after the operation, Nova was already full of energy. This brave little pup was jumping into laps, seeking attention, tossing around his toys, and devouring his meals,” the rescue team shared.
Thanks to his charming personality, Nova quickly found his forever home, alongside his friend Omar.
Before long, he and Omar settled into a new household, overcoming all odds and starting an exciting new chapter.
A Message for Nova’s Previous Owner
Since his adoption, Nova’s life has been nothing short of wonderful. He and Omar have formed a strong bond, with his owners continually reassuring him that he will no longer face hardship.
They even shared a series of update videos about Nova, addressing his former owners.
In one of these videos, his owners showcased how this “dumpster dog” now enjoys a brand-new dog bed complete with a matching quilt.

“Dad got me a matching quilt for my bed,” the update stated.
Nova is now living life to the fullest. His parents work tirelessly to ensure his existence is as sweet as it can be, despite the challenges of having a special-needs dog.
He faces difficulty with walking, getting on the couch, and various other activities, yet he never gives up.
And, neither do his devoted owners!
Recently, Nova experienced a trip to the beach for the very first time since arriving in his forever home.
In one of the most recent TikTok videos shared by his owners, they directed another message to Nova’s abandoner, stating:
“To the person who discarded me in a dumpster, guess what? I’m discovering that the world outside that dumpster is magnificent, and today dad brought me to the beach.”
This determined pup cannot express enough gratitude to his new family for rescuing him. Now that he has all he ever desired, he is set on making each day an adventure!
