Saving and bringing joy to an abandoned animal is one of the most heartwarming experiences for anyone with a big heart. Nothing means more to a dog than healing the emotional scars left by humans. Unfortunately, some dogs are so deeply traumatized that they shy away from the light of day, requiring only the most loving and persistent individuals to help them.
A Surprise Inside A Sewer Drain

The Los Angeles area is home to numerous organizations and shelters dedicated to helping abused or abandoned animals. Sadly, many dogs still find themselves left alone in streets, abandoned houses, or worse. Such was the case for a 6-month-old retriever mix that went unnoticed beneath a residential neighborhood for weeks.
She had taken refuge inside a sewer drain, often poking her head out, yet passers-by failed to notice her or simply ignored her plight. This continued until a Good Samaritan spotted her and shared her photo on Facebook, prompting a wave of concerned individuals to the location.

However, this attention only scared the puppy further; whenever someone approached, she would flee back into the depths of the sewer. Deep inside, she hid over 18 feet away, necessitating intervention from experienced professionals. This prompted Suzette Hall, founder of Logan’s Legacy, and her team to respond to the scene.
The rescue mission was set to commence.
Unexpectedly Tricky Rescue
Trapped in the back of the sewer drain, dubbed the “hole,” the little pup eluded her rescuers. Despite their attempts with long poles, she remained just beyond their reach. Hall recognized that the gathering crowd only added to the chaos, so she kindly requested their departure to ease the situation.
“We knew we had to get her hole covered,” Hall explained. “That was the only way we’d have a chance to get her.” They then waited two full days and another night for Cora, as they named her, to emerge from her hiding place. Finally succumbing to hunger, she peeked out, prompting the crew members Rosario and Rebecca to swiftly seal the hole behind her.
With escape no longer an option, Cora darted under a nearby car. The team strategically set up baby gates to block her retreat and Hall managed to slip a snare leash over her head.
“When they yelled out, ‘Suzette, you got her,’ I literally couldn’t hold back the tears,” Hall recalled. “We all stood there and sobbed.” The team empathized with her, understanding the struggle she faced after two weeks of confinement, as the hole had become a safe haven for her.
The Beginning Of A New Life
Once they confirmed Cora could not escape, she was taken to a nearby hospital, Camino Pet Hospital. There, she received a clean bill of health and a much-needed bath, making her ready for foster care.
While Cora has yet to find her forever home, she is soon to meet her temporary family. Given her sweet, loving, and cheerful nature, there is little doubt she will soon find her happily ever after.
