When school teacher Rebecca discovered Olivia and Sherlock wandering the streets of Central California in search of food, she felt compelled to help. While Olivia was timid and hesitant to be approached, Sherlock quickly warmed up to Rebecca, allowing her to gain his trust. Suspecting that the bonded pair was hiding puppies, Rebecca was determined to locate them and ensure their safety.
Learning The Puppies’ Location
Using a GPS tracker on Sherlock, Rebecca quickly located where they had been hiding their eight puppies. She then contacted Hope For Paws, an animal rescue organization in Los Angeles, requesting immediate assistance for the canine family. Fearing for Sherlock’s well-being after he had been hit by a car, Rebecca asked the rescue team to bring medication for his injured leg. Eldad and his team promptly rushed to provide aid.
After a four-hour journey, they arrived at the rescue site under the cover of night. Eldad handed Rebecca the medication for Sherlock, agreeing with her that it would be best to wait until morning to rescue the canine family without causing additional stress to them. The next morning, Rebecca and the rescue team sprang into action.
Eldad began by feeding Olivia and Sherlock, trying to gain their trust. The puppies, however, seemed wary and kept their distance.
Capturing The Dogs
The team built a large enclosure and gradually lured Olivia and Sherlock inside it. They placed a crate within the enclosure, feeding and talking to the dogs until they reached a point where the rescuers could corner them with a net.
When Olivia sensed danger, she attempted to flee, but the rescuers successfully placed a leash around her neck and secured her in a crate. With Olivia and Sherlock safely rescued, the focus shifted to the frightened puppies who had yet to interact with humans. Gradually, the rescuers began capturing the puppies, starting with one brave little pup that approached them.
The rest of the puppies remained hidden in the den, paralyzed by fear. The rescue team cleverly brought Olivia closer to their den in hopes that she could coax her babies out. When they saw their mother, the puppies immediately started to approach her.
Thanks to the dedicated efforts of the rescue team, they captured all the puppies except one, who was too frightened and retreated further into the den. Fortunately, Eldad and the team located him crying for his mother and safely carried him into their vehicle along with the rest of the family.
Doggy Family Is Finally Safe
The rescue team promptly took the canine family to the veterinarian, providing food and a warm bath for them. Born in an agricultural environment, the puppies were named Strawberry, Cherry, Kiwi, Clementine, Peaches, Mango, Lemon, and Banana. A crucial X-ray revealed that Sherlock had a dislocated hip, necessitating surgery.
Three days post-rescue, Olivia and her puppies were settling in, enjoying the attention from their caregivers while playing with toys. Before undergoing surgery, Sherlock visited Olivia and the puppies, reuniting the family in a moment of joy. LA Animal Rescue decided to foster the entire family, ensuring they would soon find loving forever homes where they would be cherished.
