It’s not uncommon to encounter stray dogs who, through life’s hardships, lose their sense of direction and self-preservation. Their hunger and fear often lead them to act recklessly, placing themselves in grave danger. In this story, we explore the harrowing journey of a stray dog who faced severe injury and danger on the highway.

A few months ago, a woman driving on a Southern California highway spotted something unusual. Upon closer inspection, she realized it was a stray dog attempting to enter the highway. Concerned, she stopped her vehicle to help, but the frightened dog fled in the opposite direction.

Understanding the urgency of the situation, she called Suzette Hall from Logan’s Legacy for assistance before leaving the scene. Hall arrived as quickly as she could, but the dog was nowhere to be found at first. Fortunately, the stray eventually reappeared.

Speaking to The Dodo, Hall described how the dog would come close to the freeway, sniffing the ground as if searching for food. However, finding none, she would retreat back into a nearby junkyard to hide. Hall, unable to locate the dog’s hiding spot, set up bait traps containing food and patiently awaited her arrival.

Hall didn’t have to wait long; Raggedy Annie soon arrived, clearly starving. I couldn’t tell if it was her. But after a minute, I looked up, and I could see this little furball inside the trap. As she relished the food, Hall took Annie to the veterinarian in Southern California for assessments to determine her next steps. The first task was to shave her matted fur. While frightened initially, Annie relaxed once it was done.

Hall noted: She wasn’t touchable at all at first. But once she realized she was safe and after all those mats were gone, she came out of her shell and was ready to start her new life. A few days later, the veterinarians confirmed Hall that Raggedy Annie was healthy enough for foster care. Although a microchip scan revealed no previous owners, Hall believed Annie once had them due to her gentle demeanor. Now, she awaits adoption and is sure to fill her future home with love and joy if given the chance.
