When Rebecca, a school teacher, spotted Olivia and Sherlock wandering the streets of Central California in search of food, she knew she had to assist them. Olivia was shy and hesitant to be touched, while Sherlock was friendly, quickly offering his trust to Rebecca. Suspecting that the inseparable duo might have hidden puppies, she devised a clever plan to uncover their secret.
Learning The Puppies’ Location
Rebecca attached a GPS tracker to Sherlock, which led her to the hidden location of their eight puppies. She contacted Hope For Paws in Los Angeles, urging them to assist the canine family. Noting that Sherlock had been injured by a car while searching for food, Rebecca requested the rescue team bring medication for him.
Eldad and his team responded quickly. Arriving after a four-hour journey in the dark, they brought the medicine Rebecca needed. To avoid alarming the dog family, they planned a rescue for the following day.
In the morning, Rebecca and the rescue team arrived at the hiding spot and sprang into action, with Eldad feeding Olivia and Sherlock to gain their trust. The puppies remained suspicious, maintaining their distance from the rescuers.
Capturing The Dogs
The team constructed a large enclosure to lure Olivia and Sherlock inside, gradually feeding and talking to them in an attempt to gain their trust. Eventually, they used a net to thwart their escape.
As they attempted to trap Olivia, she grew anxious, trying to escape. Fortunately, one of the rescuers managed to place a leash around her neck and secure her in a crate. With Olivia and Sherlock safely rescued, the focus turned to their frightened puppies, who had never encountered humans before. Before long, one puppy timidly approached and surrendered.
The other puppies remained hidden in their den, too fearful to emerge. To encourage them, the rescue team brought Olivia near her puppies, hoping her presence would coax them out. When the puppies spotted their mother, they were eager to join her, gradually approaching.
Through teamwork, the rescuers managed to capture all but one puppy, who remained hidden in fear. Luckily, Eldad and his crew discovered him crying for his mother and safely gathered him into their arms, ensuring he was reunited with his family.
Doggy Family Is Finally Safe
The rescue team transported the canine family to the veterinarian, where they were fed and given soothing baths. Given their origins in an agricultural area, they were named Strawberry, Cherry, Kiwi, Clementine, Peaches, Mango, Lemon, and Banana.
Sherlock underwent an X-ray revealing a dislocated hip, necessitating surgery. Three days post-rescue, Olivia and her puppies were settled and relaxing, enjoying playtime with their caretakers.
Before his surgery, Sherlock visited his family, enjoying their joyful reunion. The entire doggy family was taken in by LA Animal Rescue, who decided to foster them. I am confident that Olivia, Sherlock, and their adorable pups will find loving forever homes and humans who will cherish them endlessly.
