All puppies deserve a joyful puppyhood in loving homes, yet tragically, there are heartless owners who mistreat them, robbing them of happiness. One such puppy, Chance, endured a living nightmare instead of becoming the joy of his family. After suffering from an untreated abscess that caused his head to swell, his owners abandoned him at a California ER and left without a second thought.
Left lonely and sad, Chance curled up in a cold kennel at the hospital, desperately searching for strength to keep fighting.
Chance Finds Hope
After assessing Chance’s condition, the vet reached out to The Animal Pad, a rescue organization in San Diego. Director Lauren Botticelli immediately headed to the clinic to meet Chance. Upon arrival, she found her heart shattered at the sight of this broken, emaciated puppy who wouldn’t even look her in the eye when she tried to offer comfort. Every gentle touch made him cower, leaving Botticelli to realize that he had likely endured abuse in his previous home.
Chance remained withdrawn, resting his head on his paws and staring blankly at the wall. His gentle nature shone through, revealing a soul in need of warmth and care. After necessary medical evaluations cleared him for surgery, he was transferred to another hospital for treatment of his abscess. Once the swelling subsided, Chance looked like a brand-new dog.
Love Heals All Wounds
Shortly after his discharge, Botticelli took Chance into her home to nurture him back to health. Understanding that he needed time and affection to heal emotionally, she showered him with love and encouragement. Gradually, Chance began to overcome his distressing past, wagging his tail and smiling more frequently.
Through Botticelli’s unwavering love, Chance’s heart mended, and he blossomed into the dog he was always meant to be. He frolicked with dog companions and played joyfully in the yard. Chance often showered his foster mom with kisses, endearing himself to her affectionate nature.
All he truly desires now is a loving forever home, free from betrayal and filled with joy. He eagerly awaits the day when he will discover the happiness he so deeply deserves.
