At 8:30 AM, a staff member at Pet Rescue Solutions in South El Monte, California, came across a shocking sight as she approached the building. A strange black blanket rested under a tree, covering something that made her heart sink. She rushed to investigate and gently lifted the blanket, only to discover a furry family huddled in a crate, shivering from the cold— a worried mother cat desperately trying to keep her precious kittens warm.
A Little Family Pleads For Help

The family gazed at the employee with sorrowful eyes, as if pleading for help. The staff had no way of knowing exactly when they had been abandoned, but the rain-soaked blanket indicated they had likely been left there the previous night just before the downpour. “We do not know when they were dropped off. We know that it rained a lot all night before, and the blanket was soaked. They must have been there the night before,” said Eva Rainwater, the director of Pet Rescue Solutions, in an interview with The Dodo.

The mother and her three kittens were visibly hungry and skinny. The staff member brought them inside and assured that they would never experience hunger or cold again.
Relieved To Be Safe And Warm
With her kittens safe and warm, the mama cat finally relaxed. A thorough examination by the vet revealed that the family was in overall good health, although they needed food to regain strength and a lot of love to help them forget their past hardships. The staff went above and beyond to ensure their comfort, feeding them and preparing a cozy space to stay. The kittens even delighted in the toys they received.

The mother, affectionately named Flow, is estimated to be just six or seven months old, while her kittens are about a month and a half. The staff have yet to name the little ones, as they look forward to discovering each kitten’s unique personality before deciding on the perfect names.
Flow and her kittens exemplify the resilience of cats. Though abandoned in the cold, they are thriving in their new environment. Once ready, this loving family will embark on their journey to find a forever home, but until then, they’ll remain in the care of their devoted staff, soaking up all the affection they so richly deserve.
