California Shelter Pup Adores Humans Yet Still Searching for a Forever Home

Date:

Many dogs face challenges daily, often due to harmful stereotypes that lead to their suffering. From beliefs that Pit Bulls are unadoptable to the unnecessary notion that older dogs lack value, these misconceptions can create heartbreaking realities for these animals. One particular senior dog from Los Angeles felt the pain of prejudice as potential adopters bypassed him, thinking he was “damaged goods.” His tragic fate moved many, evoking a wave of sympathetic responses.

His Sad Fate

According to a Facebook post by Philozoia, a Los Angeles-based animal welfare organization, Eeyore, a senior dog, was saved from a euthanasia shelter. They praised his qualities, stating,

“He is crate and house trained, kid-friendly, and would make a great family dog. Eeyore loves attention and naps, and he also has a playful side. He loves toys and takes his stuffed animal with him everywhere,” they wrote.

Though they believed Eeyore would quickly be adopted, they were sadly mistaken; they struggled to find him a foster home for an extended time, let alone a forever home.

Then, a young woman named Harshey learned of Eeyore’s plight and felt compelled to become his foster mom, giving his story a wider audience. After some time with her, Harshey decided to share a video about Eeyore’s struggles on her TikTok profile.

@njyslve Fostering is always hard, but this one is going to hit different. A senior dog with severe scarring and asthma is seen as damaged goods for most adopters. But Eeyore has been nothing but brave and kind since I picked him up tonight. Please consider Eeyore. He is available through Philozoia rescue in SoCal.

The video showcases Eeyore’s unfortunate condition, highlighted by scars behind his ears and on his back. Harshey noted that she would not have imagined these marks resulted from abuse if Eeyore hadn’t flinched when she reached out to pet him.

It became evident that Eeyore was not merely a victim of age but a case of far worse circumstances. Harshey expressed her concern poignantly: “I can’t help but fear that no one will ever come for him.”

Despite the bitter reality conveyed in the video, it is heartening to see that Eeyore’s story resonated with many, provoking strong emotional reactions. One comment read, “It’s unbelievable the pain and horror that humans inflict on these babies. Thank you for loving him—he deserves only the best 🙏❤️.” Another user expressed their hope for Eeyore’s future, writing, “Sweet handsome Eeyore🥺 I’m hoping with everything you find your happily ever after that you deserve❤️❤️🙏.”

A viewer even urged Harshey to adopt Eeyore, but she explained, “Keeping him means more dogs that continue to not have a foster and are then at risk for euthanasia.” Her message emphasizes the importance of opening hearts to dogs like Eeyore, promoting adoption and fostering as ways to help these deserving animals find their love and homes.

Ultimately, we hope this story paves the way for positive change and that Eeyore finds the happiness he truly deserves.
