Despite the rewarding nature of a rescuer’s job, it often brings heartache. One day, a woman named Faith Easdale spotted a little pup by a busy road, adorably dressed in a pink dress. Assuming the pup belonged to someone and was simply waiting for them, she was heartbroken to see the dog persist in the same spot days later.
Never-Ending Wait
Faith realized the sweet little girl was convinced her humans would return, evident by the sadness in her eyes and her refusal to leave the spot. This distress compelled Easdale, an active member of Dream Fetchers, a California rescue organization, to take action.
“Oh no, poor little baby sitting and waiting. I rushed there, but she was gone. Panic set in as I prayed she’d found safety, but I continued to search. A friend joined me, and we asked locals,” Easdale shared in a Facebook post.
After some inquiries, a man revealed the pup had been lingering there for days, often hiding when scared. Checking every bush, Easdale finally came across the terrified pup.
“I walked quietly, and there she was— a heartbreaking sight. We carefully set up baby gates, and I entered slowly. She was so frightened,” she recounted.
As she spent time with the frightened pup, Easdale quickly won her trust. “Once she relaxed, she crawled into my lap and showered me with kisses. I removed her dirty dress, fed her, and gave her a soft blanket,” she wrote.
Start Of Something New
Upon returning home, Easdale treated the pup to a bubble bath and checked for health issues. Aside from a severely matted coat, the pup was happy and healthy.
Though Easdale couldn’t find a collar or microchip, she speculated about the pup’s past. “We rarely know the backstory. If there was an owner, they’d likely have come by now. The area wasn’t safe for a dog to just stay waiting,” Easdale remarked to The Dodo.
The next morning, Easdale took the pup for a unique “spa day.” When she returned, she was amazed to see the transformation; the pup was unrecognizable.
Renaming her Sugar, the pup was finally ready for a new beginning. “I see this as a turning point, a little Cinderella story. Giving them a second chance is what drives us, motivating hope for brighter days,” Easdale shared in a Facebook post.
Sugar is now seeking a loving foster home where she can relax and decompress. Easdale is confident this delightful pup will soon find her forever home.
