Hope For Paws, a nonprofit organization for nearly two decades, has rescued dogs across the U.S. When they learned about a puppy stranded 1,300 miles away with no one to help, they quickly packed their gear and set off. The journey from Los Angeles to Macdoel, taking around 10 hours, was daunting, but the knowledge of a little puppy trapped at the bottom of a well for three days kept them motivated.

Despite the efforts of the Oregon and California Fire Departments and emergency responders, the puppy remained trapped. When the rescuer arrived and called out, he feared he was too late after hearing no response from the puppy. He quickly lowered a camera 60 feet down the well for a clearer view and was relieved to see the puppy was alive. The next step was to devise a plan to rescue him.

No Challenge Too Hard For This Rescuer

Fortunately, the rescuer decided to attach a leash to a long rope, allowing him to tighten it around the puppy’s body once in position. However, getting the leash on proved challenging as the puppy kept his head down. The rescuer then cleverly thought to place some food on the leash, which encouraged the hungry puppy to lick it and allowed for the leash to slide on more easily.

It took the rescuer three-and-a-half hours of persistence to finally lift the puppy out of the well successfully. Getting the pup to the surface with minimal injuries was nothing short of a miracle. The first thing the rescuer did upon meeting him was offer a warm cuddle, knowing it was what he needed.

He named the puppy Wellington and rushed him to the Pet Medical Center of Klamath Falls, Oregon, for a thorough medical evaluation. After some rest, Wellington and his rescuer headed back to Los Angeles.

Happily Ever After

Wellington’s story concludes with a beautiful ending. Not only is he safe, but he has also found a loving forever home that adores him. Each day is filled with showers of love in the form of hugs and kisses, reinforcing his worth and that of all animals.

I would like to express my gratitude to every rescuer dedicated to improving the lives of animals. Your hard work truly makes the world a better place.
