California Rescuers Shocked by Call About Puppy Trapped Between Garage Walls

Date:

Residents in East Los Angeles, California, were intrigued to see a fluffy little creature peeking out from a narrow gap between two garages. This mysterious guest was elusive, disappearing whenever neighbors attempted to get a closer look. Upon inspection, they were surprised to discover a tiny pup wedged between concrete blocks, staring back at them with sad eyes—clearly in need of help but too scared to trust them.

Unfortunately, the gap was too narrow for the neighbors to reach Casper, the puppy, who despite being able to squeeze out, remained hidden. Distrustful of the residents, he retreated deeper into the crevice. Concerned for his welfare, the neighbors left him food in hopes of luring him out. Every time they stepped away, Casper would come out to eat the treats but quickly disappear again.

After days of unsuccessful attempts to rescue the little pup, neighbors reached out to Suzette Hall, founder of Logan’s Legacy 29, a dog rescue in Irvine, California. Shortly after Hall and her team arrived, they were astounded to see Casper firmly wedged between the walls.

“It was incredibly challenging to even reach him. The space was so tiny,” Hall later wrote on Facebook. They set up a trap filled with tempting treats, but Casper, too frightened, stayed put. The moment they hid in nearby bushes, he bravely emerged to snack but wouldn’t enter the trap.

“He would come out, and we would hide. He would eat everything around the trap but wouldn’t go in. We would run back to the wall,” Hall explained.

A Difficult Rescue

Realizing that luring Casper out with food was proving ineffective, the rescue team decided to take a different approach. They opted to gently nudge the dog toward the opening. Kassandra, a member of Hall’s team, climbed up a brick wall and utilized a tree branch to coax him. Casper gradually moved closer to Hall, allowing her to catch him with a snappy snare leash.

After carefully pulling him from the crevice, the team was ecstatic. Hall placed him in a crate and spoke softly to him to help him feel at ease.

The Beginning of a New Life

Before heading to Camino Pet Hospital, Hall placed Casper in the passenger seat. He relaxed in front of the air vent and soon fell asleep. Upon arriving at the vet, Casper received a thorough examination and a calming spa treatment. Initially wary, he slowly began to show his true personality thanks to the love and support of his rescuers.

“He’s doing so well now. Initially, he was so scared, but now he rolls over for belly rubs and seeks affection. He’s such a sweet dog,” Hall shared with The Dodo. Casper hopes to find a loving forever home where he will be cherished. Until then, he will remain with his foster family, who are dedicated to making him feel loved and secure.
