California Rescuers Heartbroken to Discover a Pregnant Dog Wandering Alone in Fear on the Streets

Date:

Sometimes, we all need a little push, as did this soon-to-be mama dog navigating the dangerous streets of Southern California. For months, she wandered in search of a safe place to deliver her puppies but always found herself returning to the same old streets. Despite desperately needing help, she ran away from humans, fearing even the friendliest gestures.

Neighbors Tried To Help

When Suzette Hall, the founder of Logan’s Legacy rescue in Irvine, California, received a call about the dog, she knew action was necessary. Hall and her compassionate team of volunteers were determined not to let the mama dog give birth alone on the streets. They were aware the situation could be challenging since the dog showed significant signs of trauma and resisted help.

Despite her efforts to escape humans, the mama dog returned to the streets searching for food. When Hall finally spotted her, the dog fled yet again. Adapting her strategy, Hall set a humane trap filled with delicious food nearby, patiently waiting for the distressed mama to enter it. To her surprise, an incredible moment occurred shortly after.

She stepped into the trap, clearly starved and in need of nourishment, and was safe in the next moment. “She would run if you looked at her but when I opened the can of chicken she froze and immediately started coming towards my trap. It wasn’t long until we had her safe,” Hall shared on her Facebook account.

Here Comes The Litter

It took time for the pooch to feel at ease around her rescuers, but eventually, she blossomed into her true self—an affectionate, gentle mama who was entirely devoid of aggression. With the help of Hall and her team, the dog found a warm home with Alix Levy Smith at Second Leash On Life, where she learned about love and comfort for the first time in what felt like eternity. Then, on the eve of Thanksgiving, she gifted her caregivers with the greatest surprise—her five adorable puppies.

“Well look at this, the night before Thanksgiving she gave birth to 4 boys and 1 girl in a warm home. Sweet mama, your family is beautiful,” Hall announced.
