California Rescuers Heartbroken After Discovering a Mama Dog Struggling to Care for Her Puppies

Date:

Every day, we encounter distressing cases of neglect and abandonment among helpless dogs, with many left to survive on the streets. Yet, despite the cruelty exhibited by some, there are compassionate individuals committed to helping these vulnerable animals.

A shining example of such kindness is Joey Tuccio, an experienced rescuer from Los Angeles, California, who has saved countless dogs, more than he can recall. His latest act of compassion came when he discovered a sick mother dog and her starving puppies. Joey could not bear the thought of this Pittie enduring two years of life on the harsh streets of Los Angeles.

Joey was devastated to see the Pittie in such terrible condition, and soon discovered that she had given birth to puppies but couldn’t feed them due to infected nipples. With no time to waste, he and the team from Starts With One Today rushed her to the vet for urgent care. The veterinary team quickly provided treatment, and though Lena was still sad, she started to feel better.

After her release from the hospital, Joey felt hopeful as Lena spent quality moments with her puppies, showing affection to her rescuers and enjoying her newfound happiness. Joey was thrilled, yet it’s worth noting that this wasn’t his first experience with such joy.

With ten years of rescue work behind him, Joey has saved nearly two hundred dogs, and Lena marked the 200th dog he helped. His joy was even greater when he learned that all of Lena’s puppies had found loving homes. Now, all that remained was to find a forever home for their mother, a mission he was especially dedicated to given the significance of this rescue.

“Considering what she went through, she still loves people so much. She’s smart, she’s adorable. The ideal home for Lena would be a place with someone who can be patient, and she will respond with love and snuggles,” Joey shared during his interview with The Dodo.
