Meet Jackson – the tiniest, most endearing puppy you’ll ever encounter, found alone in an abandoned box on a curbside in the middle of San Jose, California. His story is one of resilience, love, and newfound courage as he fought hard to survive and thrive in a world that has welcomed him with open arms. This beautiful puppy, with an incredibly cute face, probably wouldn’t have survived if the people who found him hadn’t acted quickly.
Little, But Fierce
“He could fit in the palm of your hand. He was less than a pound,” said Ashley Kotkin, Jackson’s dedicated foster mama. When her friends informed her about a tiny puppy abandoned on the street needing help, Ashley, being an animal lover and rescuer herself, couldn’t say no. Jackson arrived covered in flea dirt, urine-scaled, and extremely pale. Just about 3 weeks old, feeding him became a challenge; “I spent a lot of time with him making sure that he was eating enough,” Ashley shared with The Dodo.
Ashley soon sensed something was off and promptly took him to the vet. Thankfully, a foster-based rescue, Every Pet’s Dream from Santa Clara, California, quickly agreed to sponsor him.
At the clinic, they discovered Jackson had poor blood levels, was severely anemic, and required two blood transfusions along with additional veterinary care. Moreover, the vet techs found he was effectively blind and had some hearing impairment. After a couple of days in the veterinary hospital and the right medications, Jackson began to recover, gaining weight and energy, proving himself as a true fighter with a beautiful spirit.

Gradually, Jackson’s condition improved and his vibrant personality began to emerge. “We’re helping him adapt to his surroundings. His other senses are definitely heightened due to the challenges he faces,” Ashley noted. He even discovered how to growl – those were the cutest little growls ever, earning him the nickname Jackson Growlaxy. “He’s not just loved, but given everything he needs to grow big and strong and live the happiest life,” Ashley expressed. Thanks to her immense love and care, Jackson has flourished into a beautiful, healthy boy.
