When Jaina and Ivy Spagis arrived at a coffee drive-thru in San Bernardino, California, they had no idea they were about to transform the life of a distressed furry creature. As they approached the window, a large gray and white dog suddenly appeared, running through the drive-thru with her tail tucked between her legs, clearly frightened and lost.
Upon closer inspection, they were shocked to see a sweatshirt dangling from the pup’s neck. Being the founders of Cats of San Bernardino, a cat rescue organization, the couple knew what needed to be done. They felt deeply saddened by the fear in the dog’s eyes and were determined to bring her to safety. The dog, later named Bette Davis, appeared to be searching the parking lot, hoping to find her family. As Jaina and Ivy approached, Bette began to wag her tucked tail, wanting to trust them but held back by her fear.
The Frightened Pup Accepts Help

With soft spoken words, the couple slowly got closer to Bette until she finally realized they were there to help. The moment Jaina kneeled to caress her, Bette licked her hands and, feeling safe, rolled onto her back, asking for belly rubs. She soaked up the much-needed love and reassurance.
Bette Is Off To A New Start

The couple treated Bette to a cup of whipped cream and unfastened the sweatshirt from her neck. Once she finished her snack, she eagerly hopped into their car. They took her to the vet, where it was discovered that Bette had a microchip. Hoping for a reunion, they contacted her owner, but the news was heartbreaking.
“We were able to contact the owner today and found out that he moved away and couldn’t take her. We asked if he wanted her back, and he said, ‘No,’” Cats of San Bernardino reported on Instagram.
Despite this, Bette’s soulful blue eyes radiated hope and gratitude as she looked at her rescuers.
Searching For A Loving Home

Determined to find Bette the perfect home, the couple promised her a life filled with love. Although their rescue was not equipped for dogs, they found her a caring foster family for a week while they prepared a spot for her at their facility. When Bette reunited with her rescuers, her happiness was evident; her eyes sparkled, and her tail wagged with excitement.
Currently, Bette has not yet found her forever home, but she has received numerous applications. Everyone believes she will soon meet her perfect match. Bette deserves a loving owner who will cherish her completely and never let her go.
