No one wants to open Pandora’s box, knowing that it might unleash something dreadful. However, the San Jose Animal Shelter staff faced such a dilemma when a mysterious, well-taped box full of an awful stench arrived at their facility. They realized they couldn’t ignore it and had to act fast!
What Was Inside Pandora’s Box?

Once opened, the box revealed an injured puppy trapped inside, gasping for fresh air. The staff quickly realized this was not just any dog; it was a terribly matted and injured soul in desperate need of help. Her shoulder bore a severe wound, and the putrid odor likely stemmed from it.

They had to shave the dog’s excessively dirty coat, which was caked with grime and feces, to properly assess her injuries. The little pup, later named Pandora, patiently endured the grooming process, clearly relieved to receive help.
After a thorough examination, they discovered that the lump on her shoulder, initially mistaken for a significant injury, was actually just a lump. With no one coming to claim her, Pandora became part of the shelter’s ongoing care.
Pandora’s Recovery

Once cleaned, it was time to address the mass on Pandora’s shoulder. Under anesthesia, the medical team took X-rays and performed several surgeries, including tooth extractions, spaying, repairing her umbilical hernia, and removing the two masses they found.
They anxiously awaited the lab results on the removed masses; thankfully, the smaller mass was a benign cyst. Unfortunately, the larger mass was a malignant tumor. The bright side was that it was slow-spreading and could be cured if completely removed, and they successfully managed to do just that.
Pandora emerged cancer-free, fully healed after just a few weeks. It was time for the adoption process!
This charming pup quickly found a loving home with a kind older gentleman just three days later, marking a joyful new chapter in her life.

Both Pandora and her new owner couldn’t have been happier with their newfound companionship. So, it turns out that opening Pandora’s box doesn’t always lead to misfortune!
