When Suzette Hall learned about a furry creature living in a Home Depot parking lot in Compton, California, she was determined to rescue him. The long-time rescuer and founder of Logan’s Legacy 29 rushed to the scene and drove through the lot until she spotted a clump of fur that turned out to be the dog she was searching for.
The Dog Is Too Scared

Seeing the dog in such a state was heartbreaking for Hall, who understood that he had been neglected and betrayed by humans for far too long. Despite her eagerness to rescue him, the pup’s fear of people made the situation challenging, especially when he ran away as she tried to approach him.
That night, Hall returned home with a heavy heart but was determined to return. She enlisted the help of her volunteers, hoping to get the dog to safety, but the pup, later named Oreo, continued to elude capture.

“[F]or over a week, we have been trying to rescue this baby, up at 2 a.m. almost every day and staying late at night,” Hall wrote on Facebook. After learning that people in the parking lot were chasing Oreo, Hall understood the reason for his fear. Although the local security guard was the only person he trusted, her attempts to gain their cooperation for rescue were unsuccessful.
Trying To Earn Oreo’s Trust

“We weren’t giving up, [a] storm [was] coming, and I just couldn’t fathom him being out there in another storm. But we knew a trap wasn’t gonna work. Someone had to gain his trust,” Hall added.
Hall and her team persisted in winning Oreo over, but despite their efforts, he remained reluctant and fearful. Then, one afternoon, during a visit to the parking lot, the team noticed Oreo was sleeping, presenting a perfect opportunity to bring him to safety. Volunteers Yamileth and Karla carefully approached, covering him with a blanket before gently scooping him up. They were relieved to have the lonely stray in their arms at last.

Once in the passenger seat, Hall spoke softly to Oreo, who began to trust her and smiled. The rescuers took him to a vet clinic for an examination and makeover. After trimming his knotted fur and giving him a bath, Oreo transformed into a beautiful boy.
Feeling pampered and safe, Oreo’s fear dissipated, and he looked at his new human friends with hopeful eyes, ready for a fresh start.

Eventually, Oreo was placed in a loving foster home where he continues to thrive. Although he enjoys his new surroundings, he longs to find his forever family who will provide him with the unconditional love he deserves. It won’t be long before he captures the heart of a wonderful family.
