When you open your social media, you expect to see your loved ones enjoying life. However, following the Napa County Animal Shelter and Adoption Center in California, you might have come across a heart-wrenching post.
27 adorable pups were found abandoned in cramped cages outside Calistoga. Upon learning of this tragic incident, the Napa shelter quickly gathered supplies and rushed to the scene.
Rescue Mission
Despite the shelter being at capacity, they recognized that taking in this many animals would only exacerbate the situation. Thus, they called for reinforcements. “Our shelter is overwhelmed, and we desperately need your help. Along with daily strays and surrenders, we just took in 27 abandoned Chihuahuas, pushing our capacity to the brink,” the Napa County Animal Shelter stated on Facebook.
Unable to place the pups in foster homes right away, they reached out to various rescue organizations willing to take in some of the lovely pups.
Although the chihuahuas weren’t ready for adoption, the shelter encouraged the community to adopt other pups who had been waiting for a home. This would not only help those pups but also free up space for the incoming dogs. Over the next few days, the shelter’s phone rang incessantly.
“What an amazing community!! Thank you so much for your support!!! Your willingness to open your heart and home to an animal in need means the world. We greatly appreciate your kindness and dedication to improving the lives of our pets by fostering from your local shelter and spreading the word!” they expressed in an update.
Easy Does It
It was evident the shelter staff had an enormous task at hand. They needed to medically evaluate each dog and create adoption forms to quickly find them loving homes. Once the forms were prepared, they were promptly filled and signed by compassionate individuals ready to help.
“We have an update on the 25 chihuahuas brought to the Napa County Animal Shelter: thanks to your incredible support and the help of Marin Humane (9 dogs, of which 8 are already adopted), Joybound (12 dogs including a bonded senior couple), and Sacramento SPCA (4 dogs), these pups found safe havens!” they wrote.
Now, after overcoming such a difficult time, these adorable furry friends can start anew with families that will provide them with the love and care they deserve. This truly became a best-case scenario for a story that began in heartbreak.
