California Owners Consider Euthanasia for Their Senior Dog Due to Behavior, But Vets Take Remarkable Action

Date:

Human cruelty often knows no boundaries, especially towards furry little creatures that enrich our lives. How can people be so heartless? I will never understand.

Once again, my heart breaks as I recount the story of a little dog named Figgy.

Escaping The Cruelty

At the age of 18, Figgy, a Toy Poodle, was surrendered to a vet for euthanasia. This blind and toothless dog who only sought love was left abandoned, scared, and lonely. When the vet staff asked why the owner wanted to euthanize him, the answer was devastating: “He’s stupid.” Shocked at such coldness, the clinic staff decided immediately against euthanizing him.

Tests revealed that Figgy was blind, arthritic, and toothless but otherwise healthy for his age, proving that he still deserved love in his twilight years.

A Second Chance At Happiness

Fortunately, the vet clinic reached out to Muttville Senior Dog Rescue in San Francisco, California, who promptly agreed to take Figgy in. Since Figgy had health issues and had faced so much, Sherri Franklin, the founder of the rescue, brought him home with her.

“He was a total love bug and slept with me curled up in my armpit. I just loved him,” Franklin shared with The Dodo. Remarkably, within just four days after arriving at the rescue, Figgy found his forever home.

An experienced hospice owner, Eileen, expressed her eagerness to adopt Figgy upon hearing his story, stating he seemed perfect compared to his previous owners. “He’ll be our fifth hospice angel,” Eileen conveyed to The Dodo.

Figgy finally had a home where he would be safe, warm, and loved in his final days. “I just couldn’t help but think that these precious angels had given their love and loyalty to someone their entire lives, and certainly didn’t deserve to die alone in a shelter. They deserved love, comfort, and security for whatever time they happened to have left, and I knew that I could provide that,” Eileen reflected.

We are overjoyed that this sweet, elderly gentleman has found a loving person who will cherish him until the end.
