During a drive in Fresno, California, a couple encountered a heartbreaking scene: an abandoned dog curled up in a ditch, seemingly waiting for help. Upon exiting their car to assist her, they discovered that she wasn’t alone—beside her, a tiny puppy still had its eyes closed. As the couple were not locals, they couldn’t take the dogs with them, but they quickly spread blankets on the ground to warm the cold mother and her baby.
Mama Dog And Her Puppy Receive Help

The couple promptly contacted a local rescue organization, seeking assistance from Fresno Humane Animal Services. Animal control officer Priscilla Wolcott responded quickly and went directly to the location. Upon arrival, she began searching for the doggy family but initially couldn’t find them. Just when she began to worry, the mother dog, later named Momma Maisie, peeked out of the ditch, revealing her days-old puppy curled by her side. Wolcott was overjoyed at this discovery.

“The puppy was really cold because it had been raining all night before,” Wolcott recounted to The Dodo. Momma Maisie immediately showed trust in Wolcott, allowing her to help and load them into her car. Before heading to the shelter, Wolcott searched the area but found no other puppies. Fresno Humane Animal Services reached out to their partners for anyone who could provide care for Momma Maisie and her pup. Thankfully, Friends of the Tracy Animal Shelter stepped in and sent a foster to pick them up. Wolcott felt relieved knowing that Momma Maisie, a courageous dog who had braved the streets while protecting her baby, would receive the care she needed.
An Amazing Transformation

When they arrived at their foster home, both Momma Maisie and Oreo required extensive care. Momma Maisie was malnourished and had multiple parasites, necessitating a high-protein diet. As Oreo was merely days old, her foster had to tube-feed her and provide 24/7 care. Both the mother and her pup absorbed the love from their foster home, thriving day by day. They expressed gratitude towards their foster family, which pampered them with the attention they desperately needed.
Weeks after their rescue, they transformed into happy, healthy dogs. Oreo began showcasing her vibrant personality, described by the shelter as “strong-willed,” while Momma Maisie attained a healthy weight. Soon, Oreo will be ready for spaying, and both she and her mom will begin their search for forever homes. After enduring hardship on the streets, braving hunger and harsh weather, they truly deserve a loving ending.
