Today, Sugar Snap is a transformed dog who captivates everyone with his remarkable recovery.

From Noble Rescue to Miracle
In February 2024, a concerned individual on their way to drop off their child at school spotted Sugar Snap curled up on the pavement. They took immediate action, leading to a life-saving intervention!
“A passerby noticed something on the roadside while driving with his son. Instead of ignoring it, they decided to stop,” recounted the team that rescued him on Instagram.
Following that decisive moment, Sugar Snap was rescued by the compassionate team at One Tail At A Time Rescue in Chicago, Illinois, who dedicated countless resources and time to ensure his recovery.
Sugar Snap spent several weeks under veterinary care, undergoing blood transfusions and receiving extensive treatment.
“Sugar Snap arrived weighing just 19lbs, unable to walk or lift his head. He put us through quite a few emotional rollercoasters at the emergency vet, needing two blood transfusions and numerous tests, all while receiving supportive care. We were uncertain if he would survive, yet Sugar Snap repeatedly demonstrated his will to live,” shared his rescuers.
Even when his situation looked bleak, Sugar Snap maintained his hope. His spirit was unyielding throughout the ordeal, filled with a desire to recover and live.
Though he was severely malnourished, the sparkle in his eyes seemed to convey, “Thank you for saving me, kind humans!”
Sugar’s unwavering spirit and adorable nature won everyone over at the hospital!
His caretakers devoted hours next to him, showering him with affectionate cuddles and ensuring he never felt alone. As a result, just a couple of weeks after admission, Sugar Snap surprised everyone by taking his first steps!
This milestone marked a new chapter in his life, leading to remarkable progress—he never looked back! From that point on, he gained weight healthily and improved his eating habits.
And that’s not all!
Dr. Richie, one of his veterinarians, chose to foster this sweet boy and provide him with a nurturing environment in her home.
As he was discharged, the ER staff sent Sugar Snap off with the warmest farewell imaginable!
“After precisely 20 days at the emergency vet, Sugar Snap has LEFT THE BUILDING!! His foster, one of the ER vets, took him home to continue his recovery,” shared the video.
Welcome Home, Sugar Snap
Sugar was embraced into his new home with boundless love!
He was also blessed with two furry siblings—a 12-year-old dog named Fitz and a cat sibling, Noodle. With a big canine brother around, Sugar quickly learned proper behavior and how to be a good boy.
He acclimated to his new family in just a few weeks, winning over everyone’s hearts, which ultimately led to the most joyful conclusion—his adoption!

To honor his arrival, his new family prepared the most delightful welcome, complete with Sugar’s favorite snacks and his best furry friends.
Sugar Snap’s former caregivers couldn’t be more overjoyed for this sweet boy. He has turned a corner and embarked on a life that he could never have dreamt possible!
“We truly couldn’t have wished for a happier conclusion for this fortunate stray in Chicago,” the rescue team commented in an update post.
