Blind Dog Scheduled for Euthanasia in 72 Hours Rescued by Compassionate Heroes at the Last Minute

Date:

For many of us who frequently stroll through our urban neighborhoods, it’s common to see cheerful dogs accompanying their owners. However, there is a less visible side of the story—a somber narrative of shelters overflowing with dogs fighting for their lives.

This situation becomes increasingly dire, with a growing population of dogs and diminishing space in shelters. Regrettably, this escalating crisis culminates in a heart-wrenching reality: the rising euthanasia rates as shelters make room for stray or abandoned dogs.

Countless heartbreaking accounts from shelters recount the travails of dogs who faced such fates, leaving anyone with a heart feeling deeply disturbed.

Fortunately, there are still compassionate individuals who craft uplifting tales, instilling hope for a brighter future. Today’s narrative is one of those uplifting stories.

Many Good Souls Saved Him

When Gandalf, a 14-year-old blind Siberian Husky, was left at the Downey Animal Care Center in South Gate, California, his owners abandoned him at a time when he needed them the most.

Rather than providing him care and comfort in his twilight years, they left him vulnerable at a euthanasia shelter.

Given his blindness and additional health issues, he was swiftly placed on the euthanasia list with just 72 hours to live.

As that deadline loomed, hope seemed lost for the poor pup. Then, a ray of light appeared in the form of FurryTail Endings, a rescue organization located in Los Angeles, California.

This compassionate team could not bear the thought of this dog meeting such a tragic end. They sprang into action right away.

They shared a video of Gandalf on Instagram, seeking the community’s help to rescue him.

Just one day later, the rescue organization shared an encouraging update, announcing that they had successfully secured a foster home for Gandalf.

The good news continued rolling in, as numerous individuals who witnessed this update on Instagram contributed significant funds needed to free this dog from the shelter.

“Gandalf #A5633194 (also known as Xander) is officially SAFE WITH US!!!! 🥹🎉🥳 Thanks to you all for making this happen once again!” they joyfully proclaimed in their announcement.

Healing Scars From The Past

Gandalf has faced numerous challenges throughout his life, with his deteriorating health serving as a testament to his hardships. He is overweight, has a lump on his arm, as well as pain in his joints and nerves.

Even more distressing was his visible discomfort when someone touched certain areas of his body, alongside a evident fear of people—particularly women—suggesting that he has experienced abuse in the past.

However, it’s not all bleak; rescues noted that Gandalf could still see his food bowl and the hands that petted him, indicating that he is partially blind.

Through it all, his spirit remained unbroken, with love still residing in his heart and vitality within his being. Remarkably, he kept a joyful expression throughout his ordeal.

With the care and affection of these kind-hearted individuals, it’s our hope that all of Gandalf’s scars will heal swiftly. May he find comfort and love in his senior years, just as every elderly dog deserves.
